School To Present “A Night With Zach Ertz” By Francine Fulton

For its Founders Event, Conestoga Christian School will present “A Night With Zach Ertz,” featuring an appearance by the Philadelphia Eagles football player, on Friday, April 5, at 7 p.m. The event will take place at the Scottish Rite Cathedral, 430 S. Seventh Ave., Reading. The evening will include a moderated question-andanswer session with Ertz, led by Ed Parris, head of school, and photo opportunities for the first 250 event ticket holders who sign up to purchase a photo. There will also be an opportunity to win autographed Eagles footballs, as well as signed copies of the book “Birds of Pray: The

Story of the Philadelphia Eagles’ Faith, Brotherhood, and Super Bowl Victory.” According to Deborah Kurtz, the school’s event coordinator, the school specifically sought out Ertz, who is well known on the field for his dedication and work ethic and off the field for his faith and charity work. “We requested to have him come as the speaker for our fifth Founders Event,” explained Kurtz. “Every year we have a speaker who has a faith in Christ, (and) it is a fundraiser for our school. We’re hoping to sell 1,300 tickets.” Ertz, a two-time Pro Bowler, was drafted by the Eagles in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He caught the touchdown See Zach Ertz pg 6

To coincide with the popularity and competitiveness of the springtime college basketball tournament, the Honey Brook Food Pantry is holding its second annual March Madness Food Drive. As part of the event, local businesses and organizations are competing to see which one can collect the most food and donations for the pantry. Last year, eight teams took part and were dubbed “Honey Brook’s Elite Eight,” competing against each other to become the 2018 Honey Brook Food Pantry champion. This year, the event has been expanded to include 18 teams. Local businesses are taking part, as well as Honey Brook Elementary Center (HBEC), Heatherwood Retirement Community and Hickory House Nursing Home. “Last year we limited it to the top

one of the event organizers. “That was such a success, we decided to expand it to more retail-oriented businesses.” Horvath noted that Division 1 consists of larger employers, including wholesale-oriented businesses and HBEC. Division 2 is for smaller, retailoriented businesses. To equalize the size of the companies, the total pounds collected will be divided by the number of employees at each location. “The winners of each bracket will advance, and the losers will move to a consolation bracket,” Horvath explained, noting that Dave Larson of R-V Industries designed the brackets. For the first week, the food donations were weighed at the food pantry on March 15. A weigh-in was scheduled for March 22, and the final weigh-in will be on Friday, March 29. See Food Pantry pg 4
