To Love a Canine Rescue (TLC), founded in Chester County in 2013, is a nonprofit, all-breed, no-kill rescue, with a mission of rescuing and finding permanent homes for abandoned, stray and surrendered dogs. Rather than being housed in shelters, the dogs live in the homes of volunteer foster families. Currently, the rescue is need of local residents willing to foster a dog until the pet finds a forever family. Veterinary care, food and supplies such as crates, bowls and toys are provided by TLC. For more information and to complete an application, prospective foster

families may visit www.tlcrescue pa.com/foster. Rather than have the dogs housed in a shelter, living in the homes of volunteers allows the dogs to get special attention. It also enables foster families to volunteer information to the adoptive families about the dog’s special needs and their strengths and weaknesses. This allows the rescue to place dogs in homes that match their personality and temperament. Dogs in foster homes also receive socialization skills. Volunteers bring the dogs to local high schools, where they can interact with students and staff members. Tracy Long, executive director of
