The Village Library, 207 N. Walnut St., Morgantown, will host monthly support group meetings for anyone who is suffering from Lyme disease or who has an interest in learning more about the disease. The first meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 21, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Community Room. The meeting is free and open to the public. The Kiwanis Club of New Holland will present a Travel Adventures Cinema Series program on Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Garden Spot High School, 669 E. Main St., New Holland. The doors will open at 6 p.m., and the show will begin at 7 p.m. The program will be “Tibet,” produced by Sean Cassidy and hosted by Sandy Mortimer. The history of Tibet can be traced back approximately 4,000 years. The program will explore Tibet’s Buddhist religion, Zhang-Zhung language, and culture, including the practices of pilgrimage prostration and sky burial. Girl Scout Cookie Sales Underway By Francine Fulton
For those craving Girl Scout Cookies, the wait is over. Girl Scouts are offering cookies for sale at locations throughout the area, including the Morgantown Crossings shopping center, where the cookie booth is open weekends from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Girl Scout Cookie selections this year include Caramel deLites, Thin Mints, Trios, Shortbread/Trefoils, Thanks-ALot and Lemonades. Also featured is the S’mores cookie, which was introduced in 2017
in honor of the 100th anniversary of Girl Scout Cookie sales. New this year is the gluten-free Caramel Chocolate Chip, which includes caramel and semisweet chocolate chips with a touch of sea salt in a chewy cookie. On a recent Sunday, Hanna Arters and Meredith Kiser, members of Junior Girl Scout Troop 12147, which is part of the Twin Valley Service Unit, were in charge of manning the cookie booth along with “Cookie Mom” Lisa Arters and one of the troop leaders, Heather Steele. Vintage “Base Ball” Players Seek Teammates Valentine’s Breakfast Set At Joanna Furnace By Francine Fulton
“It’s a bit like being a kid again - playing a pickup game for the sheer fun and challenge of it,” said team member Isaac “Baker” Smith of Elverson when describing the Brandywine Base Ball Club (BBBC) of West Chester, which is currently seeking players for its upcoming season. The team, which formed in 2013, portrays the game of “base ball” as it was played (and spelled) in the 1860s by competing with other vintage clubs in the Mid-Atlantic Vintage Base Ball League. Smith said he heard about the club after seeing a road sign advertising an upcoming match between the BBBC and the Kennett Square club.
“About 20 years ago, I had read of vintage base ball being played out in Bethpage, Long Island; I was very interested in playing at the time but moved out of the area before I could do so,” he stated. “After a little online research, I found the BBBC website and schedule and came out to watch the second-to-last See Base Ball Club pg 7

The 12th annual all-you-can-eat Joanna Furnace Valentine’s Breakfast Buffet, which will include a live musical performance, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16, at Historic Joanna Furnace Iron Works, 1250 Furnace Road, Geigertown. The family-friendly Valentine’s Breakfast Buffet, open from 7 a.m. to noon., will feature a traditional menu, including fresh country sausage, ham, scrapple, bacon, creamed chipped beef, scrambled eggs, pancakes, French toast, hash browns, fruit sauce and beverages. In keeping with the Valentine’s Day theme, the event will have a focus on chocolate. Whipped hot chocolate will be offered along with chocolate-covered strawberries and pancakes with chocolate chips. Love songs will be sung by Phyllis Hummel of Denver at the Valentine’s Breakfast Buffet on Feb. 16 at Joanna Furnace Iron Works. will play acoustic guitar and sing a variety of romantic ballads throughout the event.
