Residents Invited To Become Master Watershed Stewards By Francine Fulton
Penn State Master Watershed Stewards are volunteers from the community who are dedicated to improving the health of local streams, rivers and other natural resources. Those interested in taking part in the program are invited to attend free information sessions that will be held locally and online. An information session has been set for Saturday, Feb. 1, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Penn State Extension, 601 Westtown Road, Suite 370, West Chester. Another session will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the New Garden Township Building, 200 Starr Road, Landenberg. The online session will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 11, from 6 to 7 p.m. at http://psu.zoom.us/j/433763719. During the free public information sessions, attendees will learn about the
Master Watershed Stewards and their work in the community. “I will talk about the programs and some of the projects we do, and some of our stewards (will speak),� explained Meagan Hopkins-Doerr, Master Watershed Steward/Master Gardener coordinator. “I’ll have applications there if anyone is interested.� To register for an information session, readers may visit http://exten sion.psu.edu/master-watershed -steward-information-meeting. Applicants who are accepted into the program will be required to complete 40 hours of training from a wide range of professionals and educators. This year, training sessions will be held on Tuesdays, Feb. 25 through May 19, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at locations in southern Chester County. The training includes three Saturday field trips as well. Explorer Post To Meet At Anselma Mill Fire Company Volunteer Pens Children’s Book By Francine Fulton
Young men and women ages 14 to 21 are invited to learn about future career opportunities in a historic setting by joining the newly formed Explorer Post 1747. The group is based at the Mill at Anselma, a national historic landmark located on Route 401 in Chester Springs. The next meeting of the Explorer Post will take place on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 4 p.m. in the site’s visitors center. The guest speaker will be Ethan Healey, the law enforcement liaison and Project Naloxone manager at Good Fellowship Ambulance & EMS Training Institute. See Explorer Post pg 4 The

Combining his love of storytelling, his real-life experiences as a firefighter and his unusual last name, Steve Dragon, the public information officer for the Birdsboro-Union Fire Department, recently published his first children’s book, “Were You Born a Dragon?� Dragon explained that the book is based on stories that he told his daughter, Rachel, while she was growing up.
