Christmas may be over, but the spirit of the season will continue through Sunday, Dec. 31, thanks to a Make-AWish hotline. The Holiday Wish Line features messages recorded by Wish kids, designed to give callers a moment of joy as they navigate the holiday season. “Make-A-Wish wanted to spark hope this holiday season,” explained Michelle Ruel, director of marketing and communications for Make-AWish Philadelphia, Delaware & Susquehanna Valley. “The hotline gives callers a break from everyday stress with messages to inspire togetherness and maintain the festive spirit.” Calling the hotline at 215-445-1302 is free. It features kid-friendly advice, stories and funny moments from six Wish kids. Callers will be prompted to select a message from Jasper, a 5-year-old with chronic respiratory failure, who wished for a backyard playset; Brantley, a 7-year-old with a heart condition, who wanted to see snow and wished to build a snowman with his family; Annabelle, a 9-year-old with See Hotline pg 5

here’s a quick and easy way you can support small businesses in Manheim: Simply vote for a Manheim Area Chamber of Commerce award. “Voting is a completely free way to support your favorite local businesses,” said Kristie Schmid, executive director of the Chamber. “What may seem like a small thing to you may be an encouraging, much-needed win for a small business owner.” Each year at its annual membership meeting in February, the Chamber celebrates the past year of business in Manheim, Schmid explained. “For the past five years, this has included celebrating the recipients of our Chamber awards,” she said. “We are always striving to acknowledge the hard work and effort that’s put into creating, managing and sustaining business. We are proud of our business community and what they bring to the table here in Manheim.” The awards will feature four categories. The Spirit of Manheim award will honor the Chamber member who is Manheim’s biggest cheerleader. Social Media Champ will recognize a Chamber member that has put its business on the map using social media. The Cornerstone of Manheim award will shine a spotlight on a business that is part of the foundation of the Manheim community through donating to community causes, creating jobs and fostering economic growth. New Business of the Year

will showcase a Chamber member that was established after 2020 and that has witnessed a growth in business despite the current economic climate. Voting will take place through Wednesday, Jan. 31, and the winners will be announced during the Chamber’s virtual annual meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 7. Manheim-based Stiegel Glassworks will create the awards, which will be small glass roses. Schmid noted that it’s a tough time to be a small business owner, but Manheim residents are rising to the challenge. “Our small businesses are hurting and need your support now more than ever,” she said. “Despite the hard economic climate, our business owners are trying to stay positive and optimistic. We all believe in Manheim and have worked so hard on revitalization and awareness. We will continue to work on making Manheim a desirable place to live and work.” She added that the Chamber is already thinking ahead to 2024, with planning underway for the second annual Brew Fest. “It will be held on Saturday, May 18, in Market Square and will again feature beer, wine, mead, cider and spirits to sample and purchase,” she said. To be eligible for a Chamber award, a business must be a member of the Manheim Area Chamber of Commerce. A complete list of Chamber members may be found at https:// business.manheimchamber.com /list.
