Born to Be Different (B2BD) Productions, a local youth theater company, will present the comedy “Backstage: The Musical” on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 16 and 17, in Landis Hall at The Junction Center, 1875 Junction Road, Manheim. Set in the 1920s, the show brings to light the things that can go hilariously awry in theater when eternal optimist Violet Davies, portrayed by Paris Black, and levelheaded Angelo Finley, portrayed by Tyler Yarbrough, team up to attempt to produce a successful show. “Backstage: The Musical” was written by Eliana Kreider, 19, who has performed in several B2BD productions and will serve as narrator for this show. At its heart, the comedy is meant to make audience members believe in
their dreams and the power of finding joy, even in life’s most chaotic moments. “It is just plain down hilarious,” said director Nicole Yutzy. “People will stay and watch our rehearsals, and they’re just roaring.” “In this show, the cast is aware of the audience and makes a lot of jokes directly to them,” Yutzy explained. “It’s a really fun show, and kids and adults will love it. Plus, it’s set in the 1920s, so you’ve got all of the fun fringe and sparkles in the costumes.” Performances are scheduled to begin at 2 and 7 p.m. on both days. To reserve free tickets, interested individuals may visit www.b2bd.org. Limited tickets will also be available at the door prior to each show, while supplies last. A freewill offering will be received at intermission to help cover the costs of the performances. See B2BD Productions pg 7

At age 29, after four successful years with the Baltimore Ravens and three with the St. Louis Rams, center Jason Brown walked away from football and into an entirely unrelated career. Some people, when they retire, become “gentleman farmers,” with a few acres and a handful of cattle that they can manage with low stress and minimal effort. Jason and his wife, Tay, had a much bigger dream, and they bought a 1,000-acre farm in Louisburg, N.C. The one problem? Neither Jason nor Tay had experience farming. Just as he did with football skills, Jason turned to YouTube to learn what he needed to run a farm. “I grew up with a little bit of a green thumb, did a little bit of landscaping with my father, as far as planting shrubs and
Jason Brown trees and flowers here and there, but doing it on a large scale? No, this was totally brand new to me,” Jason explained in an episode of “Growing a Greener World” that was reposted at https:// wisdomforlife.org/firstfruitsfarm. See Agriculture Banquet pg 12
