Holiday Market Will Blend Shopping and Support

Come to the Holiday Market on Adele, and you can find something for everyone on your gift list. The vendor show will take place on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Manheim Community Farm Show exhibition hall, 502 E. Adele Ave., Manheim.

“We have over 25 vendors that will be ready to help you get your holiday shopping started,” said Chelsey Harnly, who organizes the show with Stephanie Rogers.

Items for sale will include sourdough bread and other baked goods, local authored books, local farmraised meat, Mary Kay products, clay earrings, cocoa bombs, wooden toys, crocheted items, Tupperware, modeling compound kits, home

décor, baby clothes, glass tumblers and more.

Food and beverages will also be available for purchase.

“We have DLT Farms selling food and Shine Your Light Coffee Co. as our coffee vendor,” Harnly stated.

“The food and coffee stands will be benefiting Moms Connect.”

As she explained, Moms Connect is a ministry embracing mothers of children with physical and

intellectual disabilities in Christlike love.

“Their vision is to bring each mom into deeper community though establishing connections and inviting moments of encouragement and rest, while embracing and celebrating the challenges and joys of the journey,” Harnly said, adding that the organization serves people throughout Lancaster County and the surrounding area.

For the members of Manheim Grace Church, connecting with the community is important. They invite the community to come for a Holiday Hope Dinner, providing a free meal and fellowship.

“This is the first time that we are holding this event,” shared Kelly Baker, office manager. “We want to be ‘in our community, for our community,’ and this meal is meant to be more than just eating food. It

Connecting Veterans to Vital Resources

For many veterans, navigating the world of benefits and services can feel overwhelming. From health care and counseling to education, employment and burial benefits, the resources available are numerous, but figuring out where to begin can be a challenge. That’s where members of the American Legion Post 185 in Mount Joy hope to make a difference.

To help veterans and their families access the benefits they’ve earned, Post 185 will host a Veteran Benefit Information Session on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 47 W. Main St., Mount Joy.

“The purpose is to connect the veterans and their family members directly to the organizations and key points of contact that can assist them across a variety of resources,” explained Stacey Miller, service officer for the American Legion. Sometimes, all it takes is one conversation with the right person to open doors to the help they need, she said.

While the event will take place in Mount Joy, it is open to veterans from all parts of Lancaster County. The Legion has invited a wide range of agencies and partners to be part of the event. Representatives from the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and VFW state headquarters will be available to answer questions about VA hospital benefits and the process for applying. Veterans will also be able to learn about burial

Cavod Artists Perform for God

A thankful heart is a happy heart. Cavod Performing Arts and Theatre has a lot to be grateful for.

The upcoming Day of Thanksgiving is an opportunity to take stock, count blessings and celebrate all of the people and things that make Cavod, Cavod.

“Cavod means ‘glory of God’ in Hebrew, His majesty, His greatness,” said Connie Dienner, Cavod Peforming Arts’ founder and executive director. “Our goal is to bring glory to God through the arts. When people say it, they’re speaking the glory of God without even knowing it. We’re here to celebrate and change the culture of the arts. This facility is for anyone and everyone.”

arts from 6 to 10 p.m., an in-person event that will feature free pizza, free drinks, periodic interpretative performances, a DJ-inspired dance party, a disco ball and an hour of worship.

For more information or to donate, go to www.cavod.org.

“The atmosphere is electric; it’s fun,” Dienner added.

“I just like seeing the kids, the teens and the youth have a lot of fun. I love seeing the way they come and worship the Lord together. It’s a place where kids can come that’s safe and fun.”

“Twenty-five percent of our budget is funded through donations and the community. That’s why we can offer such great classes, awesome teachers and a beautiful facility.”

Located at 665 W. Main St., New Holland, Cavod Performing Arts will host its 10th annual Day of Thanksgiving on Friday, Nov. 7. It’s a day of online giving that is topped off by a celebration of the

“The whole goal is to raise funds for Cavod,” said Dienner. “We are so grateful. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for donations. It’s just really a community celebration where we come together and celebrate the arts. There’s so much to celebrate.”

Organizers of the Day of Thanksgiving are hoping to raise $80,000 for Cavod’s creative and inspiring work. Cavod Academy of the Arts employs 24 staff members and relies heavily on the contributions of volunteers.

“We’re funded through the community, through sponsors and through tuition,” said Dienner.

Now Taking Orders

Cavod Performing Arts operates facilities at two locations - in New Holland and at 1223 Lancaster Road in Suite 115 in the Penn Towne Center shopping center in Manheim.

Cavod’s immaculate New Holland headquarters features offices, four performing arts studios, a costume shop, music rooms, a playroom and a café. The organization also operates the 200-seat Cavod Theatre two doors down from its offices.

“Art teaches our students to discipline,” said Dienner, a resident of Leola. “It brings out creativity and an understanding of who they are. If they never pick up the arts again, I think they’ll be better citizens and people because of (having been involved). It’s hard work. You don’t learn to perform overnight.”

Cavod offers classes and instruction for students and adults in the arts of dance, music and theater.

Cavod Performing Arts stages seven public shows annually, including its upcoming holiday production of “White Christmas” on Fridays, Dec. 5 and 12; Saturdays, Dec. 6 and 13; and Sundays, Dec. 7 and 14. Cavod embodies its motto, “Create With Purpose.”

“Hopefully, people are inspired, encouraged and they’ll see the value of the arts,” said Dienner.

“We have people coming from all over, from as far as Reading, York, Oxford, Chester County and Willow Street,” Dienner continued. “We have families who will drive over an hour just because they want an atmosphere like this.”

CBJO Will Show Up, Show Out for Veterans

There are many meaningful ways to honor veterans for their service. One opportunity that’s designed to be snappy, satisfying and entertaining is an upcoming Corsair Blue Jazz Orchestra (CBJO) performance.

“The audience can expect great music, good entertainment,” said Joe Chestnutt, president emeritus and one of the foundering members of CBJO. “The band’s going to have a great show. When the band was founded, one of the tenets was to do things to help veterans.”

CBJO will present this year’s edition of its annual Veterans Day concert at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9 - two days prior to the national observance of Veterans Day - inside Highland Presbyterian Church’s acoustic-friendly sanctuary at 500 E. Roseville Road, Lancaster. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The event is free to attend, and a freewill offering will be accepted during intermission.

CBJO’s 110-minute performance will feature two 50-minute sets separated by a 10-minute intermission. The concert will include 28 pieces of music, mostly patriotic and big band numbers from the 1940s through the 1970s. During the intermission, audience members will be informed about the concert’s beneficiary, Tunnels

“My daughter (Tahnya) and I felt like we wanted to create a space where we could teach classes with excellence and with wonderful costumes,” said Dienner. “We thought, ‘What if we could create a space where we could merge the glory of God and excellence together?’ We really wanted to tie Christianity into the arts. We are creating with purpose, and we’ve grown in community and support.”

in need of connection and a chance to enjoy a holiday meal with the company of others.”

The meal will be served on Saturday, Nov. 29, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church, 333 E. High St., Manheim.

“We will be serving turkey casserole; green beans and corn; applesauce; rolls with butter; pies and cookies; and tea, coffee, lemonade and water,” Baker said.

“Our congregation will be donating and preparing the food, as well as serving the food. It will be buffet style, but if someone needs food served to them at the table, we can do that as well.”

Along with the meal, the event will include other activities.

“We will have a craft, table games, live music and a prayer team available in the sanctuary for anyone wanting prayer,” Baker noted.

Everyone is welcome to attend the event, she said.

“We want to fill the void of those who are alone or don’t have family close by to share a holiday meal,” she commented, noting that families and individuals are invited. “We want those who come to leave not with just a full belly, but with a joyful heart and happy memories.”

She acknowledged that

the holiday season can be hard for many people, and the church members are hoping to help with that.

“If you find yourself with no family or friends to enjoy a meal or spend time with for the holidays, please come. We hope that this can fill a void for anyone who needs company, friendship and/or connection and help make this time of year a happy and memorable time,” she said. “We are excited to welcome you! This will be a fun, lighthearted, casual event with the hopes of bringing joy to those who come.”

Women’s Group To Meet

Women of all ages and preschool children are invited to attend Neighbors Sharing and Caring, a women’s ministry of the Chiques Church, 4045 Sunnyside Road, Manheim, on Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 9 to 10:45 a.m.

Julie Henning will share “A Rose in a Ditch.” From the streets of Busan, South Korea, to a house with a white picket fence in Souderton, Henning will share her journey from her Amerasian roots to life with the famous author Pearl S. Buck and becoming part of the family of God.

Henning was born in South Korea. Her father was an American G.I. whom she never knew, and her mother was Korean and raised her alone until she died. Henning was 13 when she became an orphan. She was brought to America by author Pearl S. Buck and adopted by a family in Pennsylvania. Being Amerasian, she became a spokesperson on behalf of her people and their plight. Henning is now a speaker and author who recognizes God’s grace and sovereignty throughout her life.

During the program, child care will be provided for infants through prekindergartners. Readers may contact Bonnie at

Recognizing that wellness extends beyond physical health, the Lancaster Vet Center will share resources focused on mental health and counseling services. The Building Bridges Foundation, known for its equine-assisted therapy programs, will also participate, offering information about how working with horses can support emotional healing and recovery for veterans.

The evening will begin in the church sanctuary with a short presentation outlining the various veteran benefits and how to

access them. Afterward, attendees will have time to visit information tables in the fellowship hall, enjoy light refreshments and connect with representatives one on one.

“(There will be time) for everyone to network with other veterans, ask questions and gain the resources they seek,” Miller said, noting that organizers want to make it easier for all veterans to find the help they deserve.

The Manheim Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Cyrus R. Peters Memorial Post 5956 and its auxiliary will hold a Veterans Day service on Tuesday, Nov. 11. The ceremony will be held at the Manheim Veterans Memorial plaza on Memorial Drive starting at 11 a.m. It will feature a guest speaker, remarks by the post commander and music by the Manheim Central High School choir and orchestra. The ceremony will conclude with the playing of Taps to honor all those who have fallen while in service to our nation.

The featured speaker for the ceremony will be Lt. Col. Ian Dunlap, United States Marine Corps. Dunlap is currently a student at the United States Army War College at Carlisle Barracks. He received his commission as a Marine Officer from the Virginia Military Institute and is a graduate of a number of military schools, including the Marine Special Operations School Individual Training Course, the Expeditionary Warfare School and the College of Naval Command and Staff. Prior to his arrival at Carlisle Barracks, he commanded the Marine Corps Security Force Battalion in Bangor, Wash. He has also commanded at the company,

This year’s Veterans Day is the day after the 250th birthday of the United States Marine Corps. The Continental Corps of Marines was established by the Second Continental Congress on Nov. 10, 1775. Tun Tavern in Philadelphia is regarded as the birthplace of the Corps because it was the first Marine enlistment site under Captain of Marines Samuel Nicholas, who owned the establishment.

Kyle Proctor, commander of VFW Post 5956, noted that in addition to the Marine Corps birthday, 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the end of the war in Vietnam, 75 years since the start of the Korean War and the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. All of the anniversaries will be noted during the program.

The VFW is a nonprofit veterans service organization comprised of eligible veterans and military service members from the active, guard and reserve forces. The VFW and its auxiliary have many programs and services that work to support veterans, service members and their families, as well as their communities.

In addition to promoting veterans and veteran causes, Manheim’s Cyrus R. Peters Memorial VFW Post 5956 and auxiliary support Manheim Central sports and education, make donations to local charitable organizations and conduct service projects in the area. WOMEN’S CLUB OF MANHEIM

Please join us at our meeting on November 11, 2025 at 7 p.m.

It will be held at Burke and Poppy’s, 25 South Main Street, Manheim

Come and see what our club is all about, and what we do for the Manheim community.

We’ll also have a visit from Manheim’s own Belsnickel, Mike Gerhard.

“It’s something that has a direct impact on homeless veterans in our area,” said Chestnutt, a trumpet-playing veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a resident of Manheim Township. “It’s a very visible impact in our region for doing good for veterans. I think this is really special because we will be able to go and see their work.”

CBJO comprises 20 talented, mainly local musicians playing the upright bass, the piano, drums, alto saxophones, tenor saxophones, a bari saxophone, clarinets, trombones and trumpets. The orchestra will be accompanied by four vocalists.

“The orchestra will be playing pieces from Glenn Miller to Count Basie,” said Chestnutt. “It’s big band music from all eras. It’s just the range this band has. It’s stuff people will know when they hear it, which makes it very exciting. We have one of the most talented trumpet players I’ve ever heard, and he will be featured in a number of pieces.”

“I like the whole performance,” continued Chestnutt. “Some of my favorite stuff is when the vocalists sing; they are just fabulous. But I think the highlight is the armed forces salute. We ask veterans to stand

CBJO, which was formed through a reunion of Manheim Township’s Class of 1978 11 years ago, typically performs 10 times a year.

“When you’re playing and you get a real positive reaction, it does something for you,” said Chestnutt. “It just makes you play that much better. It just fires you up.”

“Everybody just wants to play,” Chestnutt added. “(The musicians) enjoy playing and performing. We aren’t paid, professional musicians, but (the musicians) have got a very good organization to play with.”

Included in the orchestra’s upcoming concerts are a 7 p.m. show at Masonic Village in Elizabethtown on Tuesday, Nov. 18; “A Swingin’ Christmas” at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14, at Grace United Methodist Church in Hummelstown; and “A Swingin’ Christmas” at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21, at Salem United Methodist in Manheim.

“When we formed, we instrumented it like Glenn Miller did his band,” said Chestnutt. “The caliber of players has improved as we’ve evolved over the years. Musical director Keith Wiley gets the best out of the band. The band is evolving; it’s not stagnant, and the musicians are playing more challenging music.”

ASPIE Plans Open House

ASPIE will hold its annual open house on Saturdays, Nov. 8 and 15, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at its gallery, 1905 Barton Drive, Lancaster. ASPIE is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating supplemental income for adult artisans with disabilities.

The work of artists Jesse Buckwalter, Jonathan Whitlock, Dorrin Gingerich, JP Henry, Kate Manners, Steven Georges, Malcolm Corley, Ryan Zinnanti, and others will be displayed. Featured art will include paintings, photographic prints, metal sculptures, jewelry, original comic books, crafts, figurines, books, and stuffed creatures.

A concert by the ensemble from the Adult Enrichment chorus, led by Annette Whitlock, will add

a holiday note to the open house on Nov. 8 at 10:30 a.m. Adult Enrichment is a day program for adults with disabilities provided by United Disabilities Services. Other partner organizations such as Success Rehabilitation, Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development, and the Franklin & Marshall College Best Buddies team will also be at the event.

Donors make it possible for ASPIE to help artists with disabilities show their work and grow more independent. The organization helps its member artisans generate income through donations for their original artwork through www.aspieartists .com and its Lancaster gallery.

presentation will include a discussion of “The Stokes Guide to Finches,” which Young co-wrote with Lillian Stokes. In the book, 43 types of finches from the U.S. and Canada are included, and the guide covers detailed finch identification, language, behavior, irruptions, specialized maps and foraging charts on crossbills, how to conserve finches, and more.

Young worked in the field of social work with special needs populations at the William George Agency for more than 12 years and is currently a wild bird products specialist and

Fall Fest Slated at Millport Conservancy

The North Museum of Nature and Science and Millport Conservancy will present their sixth annual Fall Fest on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Millport Conservancy, 737 E. Millport Road, Lititz.

The collaboration between the two local nonprofits is a fundraising event to support North Museum’s STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education programming and Millport Conservancy’s efforts to restore the Lititz Run stream through soil erosion control, wetlands restoration, and stream management. The conservancy’s 75-acre refuge for native wildlife and plant species includes Lititz Run, where preservation efforts have resulted in healthy, wild reproduction of both rainbow and brown trout, which can be found year-round in its waters.

The family-friendly event will feature activities for children of all ages, including astronomy experiments, solar observing, an archeological treasure dig pit, a selfie station, environmental science and sustainability activities, face and pumpkin painting, Lancaster County Bird Club activities, a live reptile petting zoo, and nature walks and crafts. There will also be a recognition of veterans, and food from the

Gourmet Julie’s Way food truck, as well as soft pretzels and apple cider, will be available. The fest will also include a beer and wine tasting room for people 21 and older.

In honor of Veterans Day, all veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders will be admitted free of charge. Tickets may be purchased in advance or on-site, with a discount for children ages 4 to 17; children under age 3 will receive free admission. There is a suggested donation for parking. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit https://north museum.org/fall-fest/ or call 717-358-3941.
