Teen Central will host Light the Night BY CATHY MOLITORIS
When Teen Central hosts Light the Night, the organization strives to provide an event that’s fun, welcoming and family-friendly. “The goal of this event is to connect with the Manheim community and share the light and love of Jesus specifically on Halloween, a night that can often feel dark,” explained Shontel Griffith,
activities coordinator for Teen Central. Light the Night will be held at the organization, 15 S. Wolf St., Manheim, during the same time as trick-or-treat night in Manheim Borough, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31. The festivities, which are all free, will include games with prizes, candy, grilled hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, a photo booth, hot See Light the Night pg 3

ome shopping at the Holiday Market on Adele, and you can check off items on your list while also supporting a great cause. The event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Manheim Farm Show Exhibition Hall, 502 Adele Ave. It will feature a variety of vendors and food, with some of the proceeds benefiting Unlocked Closet. “ We will have craft vendors, direct sales, a local farm and local bakers,” said Chelsey Harnly, who is helping to organize the market with Stephanie Rogers. Vendors will include Thirty-One Gifts, Tupperware and PaperPie Books, along with stands selling hot chocolate bombs, Christmas stockings, whoopie pies, bread, jewelry and more. Food and drinks will be sold by two local businesses, Harnley stated. “DLT Farms will be providing sausage and pulled pork sandwiches
Both Harnly and Rogers noted that visiting the Holiday Market on Adele offers a great way to shop local. “Getting to meet the owners of small local businesses makes spending money a little bit less painful,” Rogers said. “They all work hard to bring good, quality items.” Harnly agreed, adding, “This is such a great time to support local for your Christmas shopping. In this financial climate, we are all pretty concerned about what and who we are supporting with our dollars, so why not support those families in our own communities?” For more information on the Holiday Market on Adele, search for the event on Facebook and Instagram. The building is handicappedaccessible, and there are handicap parking spaces at the building. All other cars should park across the road at the Manheim pool parking lot due to ongoing construction at the high school.
Light the Night will feature free food and activities.
First responders are invited to breakfast BY CATHY MOLITORIS
Connecting with the community is part of the mission of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Manheim, and the church wants to express its gratitude for some specific members of that community. The church, located at 90 S. Charlotte St., will host a First Responders Breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 7 to 10 a.m. “The breakfast is a great morning,” said priest-in-charge Barbara Seras. The meal used to be catered, but the church decided there was
enough culinary talent amongst the parishioners to create a delicious meal. “Now our folks do all the cooking,” Seras stated. The menu will include eggs, pancakes, French toast, bacon, sausage, fruit, home fries and more, said Brent Fortney, a vestry member who is helping to organize the meal. “We do this to provide a community service and give thanks for all the first responders do for us,” he shared. “We just want to convey our thanks.” See Breakfast pg 3

and soups,” she said. “White Magnolia Coffee will be providing different coffee and non-coffee drinks.” A portion of coffee and food sales will benefit Unlocked Closet, an Ephrata-based nonprofit organization. “Unlocked Closet serves Lancaster County and surrounding area foster/adoptive families through a ‘foster closet,’” Harnly explained. “All items are free of charge and include clothing, toiletries, diapers and more. They hope to create, strengthen and maintain a positive foster/adoptive community.” The organization will also have a table set up with information about its mission and how to help, she said. “We try to have a nonprofit to highlight every year,” Harnly stated. “Stephanie and I are very passionate about family and children, and knowing that Unlocked Closet is helping these families to make these transitions a bit easier for them is huge to us.”
