St. Paul’s UCC Announces Events St. Paul’s United Church of Christ (UCC), 50 N. Main St., Manheim, will celebrate fall in a big way on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28 and 29, and the entire community is invited. Free parking is available for all of the events, and the church is handicapped-accessible. A free turkey dinner will be held at 6 p.m. on Sept. 28. Sponsored by St. Paul’s UCC’s Women’s Fellowship, the turkey dinner with all the fixings will be served family style in the church fellowship hall. Following the meal, Elva Hurst of Elva’s Barnyard Art Studio and Gallery will present and illustrate a chalk talk titled “You Can Make a Difference.” Interested individuals are encouraged to sign up in advance by calling the church at 717-665-2447. 43rd Annual Auction Will Support Disaster Relief Efforts The 43rd annual Brethren Disaster Relief Auction, known as the largest disaster relief auction in the world, will be held at the Lebanon Valley Expo Center, 80 Rocherty Road, Lebanon, on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 27 and 28, beginning at 9 a.m. The auction, in cooperation with the Atlantic Northeast and Southern districts of the Church of the Brethren, began in 1977 and has provided more than $16 million in disaster relief to victims of natural disasters both in the U.S. and internationally. Pig Iron Fest To Celebrate Furnace Industry By Chelsea Peifer

Members of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Manheim, including (from left) organist June Smith, council president Joan Hess, the Rev. Bill Long, church administrator Pam Herman, and youth and family minister Akira Owens, invite the community to a turkey dinner and chalk talk on Sept. 28, as well as a 250th anniversary celebration service and Fall Festival on Sept. 29.

Visitors to the annual Pig Iron Fest and Car Show on Sunday, Sept. 29, will have a chance to see the vital role that river towns like Marietta and Columbia played in America’s Industrial Revolution. The free community event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Furnace Road Day Use Area and the Musselman/Vesta Furnace Site in Chickies Rock County Park, Furnace Road and Route 441, just south of Marietta. Approximately 120 antique, classic, and street rod cars will be featured in the lawn area. Trucks and Iron Horse motorcycles are also welcome. Donegal Substance Abuse Alliance (DSAA) is moving into a new space at 78 E. Main St., Mount Joy, and executive director Stacy Emminger said with a smile, “In my mind, I see us already outgrowing this place, too.” That is the kind of big vision that Emminger has for DSAA. Emminger’s son, Anthony Perez, died of a heroin overdose at age 23 in 2014. She and other Donegal-area residents who saw and experienced the negative impact of See DSAA pg 3
