n 1976, a new Christian school opened in Elizabethtown. Mount Calvary C hristian School began with 100 students and has since grown in size while its C hristcentered mission has remained steadfast. The school will mark its 50th anniversary with an auction and celebration on Friday, Sept. 25, Last year’s Kids Fest at Mount Calvary Christian School a n d S a t u rd ay, Sept. 26. The festivities will be campus or take their food to-go by an auction preview. “Our live auction will be Friday, held at the school, 629 Holly St., from the West Campus, located at 35 Elm Ave., Elizabethtown. starting at 5:30,” said Lindsay Elizabethtown. As a new school year kicks off, so does a new season of Bible2School, a program that provides Christian education for elementary school students in the Manheim Central School District. Bible2School will star t for second-, third- and fourth-graders from Doe Run Elementary School the week of Monday, Sept. 21. Library Will Host Higher Education Fair If you’re a parent of a high school student, or you’re a student thinking about your future, the prospect of choosing a college - and paying for it - can be daunting. The Manheim Community Library wants to help. T he librar y w ill host its first Higher Education Fair on Monday, Sept. 14, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at 547 N. Penryn Road, Manheim. “We have five colleges participating, and each school will have a half-hour timeslot for breakout sessions,” said Connie Kelly, assistant director of the library. “We’re leaving it up to the school for what they want to cover in their session, and there will be time for questions from people attending.” The breakout sessions will feature representatives from Millersville University, Elizabethtown College, Franklin & Marshall College, Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology and Lebanon Valley College. Sessions will be held every half hour from 4:15 to 6:15 p.m. From 6:45 to 7:30 p.m., financial adviser Ann Seitz-Brown will present a session on paying for college. She’ll offer tips on demystifying tuition, obtaining scholarships and applying for financial aid. Kelly came up with the idea for the college fair after a library employee attended an engagement where Seitz-Brown spoke.

Saturday’s celebration will begin at 11 a.m. “Saturday will have more of a homecoming feel,” shared superintendent Jared Griest. “We’ll have a Kids Fest with Touch-a-Truck from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and then we have a number of different athletic events happening during the day.” Games will include JV and varsity volleyball, as well as two varsity soccer matches. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Chosen Brew Coffee Truck and a food stand operated by the high school will serve food and drinks. The highlight of Saturday’s activities will be a Celebration Program, beginning at 4 p.m. in the school gym. “This will be a one-hour program for people to celebrate the 50 years of the school,” Griest said. “We’re collecting ‘50 Stories of Mount Calvary’ right now, and we’re going to use those stories to talk about how God has been faithful to the ministry of the school.” From 5 to 8:30 p.m., a variety of food trucks will be on-site, and the soccer games will be held, with a homecoming celebration between the two games. The evening will conclude with a drone show above

Proceeds from the event will benefit the ministry of the school and will provide financial assistance to students. “We serve about 775 students in preschool through 12th grade,” Griest said. “We’re one of the largest Christian schools in central Pennsylvania. We have students from four different counties. Students in nine districts are bussed to us, and we have a total of 12 or 13 districts represented.” In Lancaster County, students attend Mount Calvary Christian School from the Elizabethtown School District, as well as Donegal, Manheim Central, Hempfield, Penn Manor, Manheim Township and Columbia school districts. About 80 different churches are represented in the school, Griest said. He attributes the school’s longevity to both God’s presence and the dedication of Mount Calvary Church. “The theme of the year is ‘50 Years of God’s Faithfulness,’” he stated. “He has proven Himself to be faithful in a number of different ways to the school. We’re also thankful for the support of Mount Calvary Church. We’re one of the only church-run Christian schools

The fair grew from the idea of having the adviser host a financial planning session at the library. “Then we came up with this idea of having some local colleges come to participate, so students could gather information all in one place,” Kelly said. “It’s not going to be like a huge college fair, but instead it’s a smaller event focusing on local schools.” The event is open to both students and their parents or guardians, and attendees are encouraged to ask questions, explore academic programs, discover more about campus life and collect official admissions resources. The fair will be set up as a drop-in event, so people can come for the whole time and interact with all of the school representatives, or just attend for a breakout session with the school or schools that interest them. Closer to the date, specific times when each college will lead a breakout
in Lancaster County, and the church has been unwavering in its support of Christian education. As a result, they’ve really helped to make Christian education affordable to families in the region.” Norris emphasized that the auction and celebration would not be possible without the support of sponsors, including local businesses. Classes will run for Baron students as follows: Tuesdays for second-graders, Wednesdays for third-graders, and Thursdays for fourth-graders. Sessions are held during students’ lunch and recess time. Children are bused to the host site, Manheim BIC Church, 54 N. Penryn Road. “Bible2school is a safe and Christ-centered environment led by caring adults who have a heart for children to hear about the love of Jesus,” explained Marie Good, area coordinator for the Manheim Central Bible2School program. “Our program is age-appropriate and relevant to the child’s world, engaging them in fun and hands-on activities.” Trained volunteers lead the programs, which include time for students to eat their lunches, followed by faith-based lessons and activities. “Bible2School is a great place to make new friends, learn about God, develop a love for reading the Bible and have healthy mentoring relationships with Bible2School small group leaders,” Good shared. Bible2School has been sharing the Gospel for more than 45 years. It began in 1979, when a group of pastors known as the Manheim Ministerium held the first classes for more than 100 fifth-graders from all seven Manheim Central School District elementary schools. Today, the nonprofit provides weekly Bible classes for elementary students throughout the country. It has also expanded its services to include Bible2School Memberships, a franchise model designed to bring a Bible2School program to public schools nationwide. Bible2School classes reach children attending public school who may not otherwise have access to church, providing an easy way for families to incorporate faith into the busy school week. “My heart is that every child leaves Bible2School hearing the message that there is a God who sees them, loves them and delights in them,” Good said. She emphasized that the program is looking for volunteers who have a relationship with Jesus and enjoy working with children. HARTZ Physical Therapy recently presented a $12,500 check to Lancaster Downtowners, a local nonprofit that supports older adults in Lancaster city in living independently while staying socially connected and engaged. The funds were raised through the fifth annual Spring Swing Golf Tournament and silent auction, hosted by HARTZ PT on June 5 at Iron Valley Golf Club in Lebanon. Founded by HARTZ PT physical therapists and golf enthusiasts Daulton Rutter and Kevin Sisbarro, the Spring Swing has grown steadily in both attendance and impact. Lancaster Downtowners is a community of seniors that fosters independence, social connection, and lifelong learning, in part
through its Just One Call volunteer program, which helps members with everyday needs like transportation, home maintenance, and technology. Through the HARTZ PT Charitable Organization, founded in 2020, HARTZ PT contributes over $1,000 per employee and more than 50 volunteer hours annually to support local nonprofits. To date, the company has raised more than $450,000 through annual initiatives like the Spring Swing Golf Tournament and the Fall Blast 5K , along with its 25th anniversary grant giveaway in 2025. Past charitable Spring Swing beneficiaries have been Beards for Brothers, Off the Streets, and Clare House.
