Creek Stomp Will Offer Hands-On Fun BY CATHY MOLITORIS
Prepare to get your feet wet - literally - when Chiques Creek Watershed Alliance hosts a creek stomp on Tuesday, Aug. 16. The event will be held at the covered bridge in Memorial Park, Manheim, near the Farm Show complex off East Adele Avenue. It will begin at 6 p.m. “Watershed specialists from the Lancaster County Conservation District will be leading participants into the Chiques Creek to
look for and collect macroinvertebrates,” explained Steve Gergely, president of Chiques Creek Watershed Alliance, adding that participants will then gather at the pavilion to discuss what’s been collected. “The specialists help to identify the species and discuss what those species mean in terms of relative stream health. For example, some species indicate good water quality, while others are only found in areas of degraded water quality.” See Creek Stomp pg 2

present information about who they are and what they have to offer,” Gagne stated. “Our vendors tend to get very creative with the games and prizes they give away.” People who come to the Kids Cookie Break Fest are invited to bring items to benefit Align Life Ministries, Gagne said. “We’re asking for donations of diapers in size 4, 5 or 6; Pull-Ups; baby wipes; or $10 baby-themed gift cards to Walmart,” she explained. Although the festival is free to attend, ticket holders will have the option to reserve a Chick-fil-A meal for a fee at the time of ordering tickets, and a variety of food trucks will be on-site selling food for purchase. “People are also welcome to bring their own picnic lunches as well if they’d like to,” Gagne said. She noted that the Kids Cookie Break Fest is a way for WJTL to promote its mission and connect
