The Manheim Borough Police will host Manheim National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 7, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Manheim Community Pool, 504 E. Adele Ave., Manheim. Admission is free. The swimming pool will be open to attendees. The event will feature displays by local first responder personnel and equipment from various groups, including Manheim Borough Police Department, Northwest EMS, Manheim Hope Fire Department, Mastersonville Fire Department, and Penryn Fire Department. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. COMMUNITY PICNIC
Jerusalem Church in Penryn invites the public to its annual community picnic on Saturday, Aug. 4. The picnic has been held since the 1800s. Garage sales will be held in the morning throughout the village of Penryn. Takeout chicken corn soup will be sold by the quart at the grove on Picnic Grove Road from 8 a.m. until sold out. Patrons should bring their own containers. Food and live music will begin in the grove at 4 p.m., with chicken corn soup, hamburgers and hot dogs, cakes, pies, ice cream, beverages, and more for sale. Food sales will benefit various ministries that the church supports as well as the Sunday school program. Cake walks will also take place. The Moonlighters will perform at 4:30 p.m., and EMazinGRACE will entertain at 7 p.m. Bring lawn chairs. Visit www.jerusalemchurch.net.
The Gen. John H. Michaelis Chapter 327 of the Korean War Veterans Association will meet at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 8, in the Bluebird Commons of Woodcrest Villa, 2001 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster. Speaker Don Lohr will present on “From Somerset to Manheim.” Membership in the group is open to all men and women who served in Korea at any time from 1945 to the present or were in uniform serving anywhere during the period from June 25, 1950, to Jan. 31, 1955. Pamoja: An Evening In Kenya Children’s Group To Perform On Aug. 9 In Manheim By Chelsea Peifer
The members of the Baba Nyumbani Children’s Performing Group will be traveling from Kitale, Kenya, to the United States for a special performance as part of “Pamoja: An Evening in Kenya” on Thursday, Aug. 9, at Manheim Brethren in Christ Church, 54 N. Penryn Road, Manheim. The family-friendly event, which is open to the public, is being hosted by the Burkholder Family Foundation in conjunction with Horizon: Empower the Orphaned, a Lancaster-based nonprofit organization committed to empowering orphaned children to self-sustainability through a micro community model. When Gary Fyke moved to Mount Joy from the greater Chicago area in 2017, he knew that he wanted to establish an F3 group in his new location. “Moving here, I couldn’t not have F3 in my life,” recalled Fyke, referring to the national network of free, peer-led workouts for men. While being part of an F3 site in his hometown, Fyke helped out with operations, leading workouts, and coordinating community involvements. Three people showed up See F3 Lanco pg 7
