Hall Of Fame Will Induct Class of 2020 BY CATHY MOLITORIS

he Manheim/Manheim Central Hall of Fame seeks to recognize and perpetuate the accomplishments of people who have brought honor, distinction and excellence to the Manheim community. Eight people will be inducted into the Hall of Fame Class of 2020, which is being recognized this year due to cancellation of last year’s event during the pandemic. The Hall of Fame banquet will be held on Saturday, Aug. 14, at Manheim BIC, 54 N. Penryn Road. A social hour will begin at 4 p.m., with dinner at 5 p.m. followed by the awards presentations. The following people will be the inductees of the Class of 2020. David M. Cooper, a retired U.S. Navy SEAL, is a 1983 graduate of Manheim Central High School. He spent 25 years in the Navy, including 19 years with the Naval Special Warfare Development Group, conducting combat operations throughout Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Connie Dienner believes in the power of faith. For years, she had thought about expanding Cavod Performing Arts, the nonprofit organization she founded in New Holland 20 years ago. “It had been on my heart for a long time to open a second location,” she stated. “Lots of people would say to me over the years, ‘I wish you were a little closer to Lancaster.’ One day, God opened up the doors for an opportunity for us.” See Cavod pg 6

In a building off Erisman Road in Manheim, a team of volunteers is bringing the past back to life. Members of the Erisman Mennonite Church have been working to restore the Lincoln School, located across the street from the church at 8 S. Erisman Road. They will host an open house on Saturday, Aug. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. The Lincoln School was built in 1884 as a one-room Dennis Nissley has led a team of volunteers to restore the Lincoln School, located across the school and was used until

1952, when it was sold by Rapho Township to the church. It served as a home for pastor John Eby and his wife, who remodeled it for residential use and lived in it until selling it back to the church in 1985. Although the property has housed Sunday school classes, youth group activities and the Erisman sewing circle, congregants were inspired when fellow church member Tina Snyder suggested that the congregation restore the schoolhouse as a project to bring the church together.
