The Lancaster County Community Foundation in partnership with the United Way of Lancaster County awarded the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PSPCA) Lancaster Center a $2,000 grant to assist pet owners in need throughout the region. The funds have been put into action to provide pet food as families face the health and economic impacts of the coronavirus. The PSPCA Lancaster Center, 848 S. Prince St., Lancaster, is working to assist pet families in need and has provided hundreds of pounds of dry food and countless pounds of wet food to its clients. With other area resources shuttered, the PSPCA has worked to ensure that anyone who needs assistance feeding their dogs or cats during this time receives it. To ensure safety of the PSPCA Lancaster staff and the public, all pet food pantry pickups are done without physical contact. Families in need of assistance are asked to email lancaster@pspca.org, after which they will be contacted to determine their specific needs. They will then be given a time to pick up food at the center. The food is bundled and left outside the building with the identifying information of its recipients. “There has always been a need for access to pet food, but through this pandemic that need has increased dramatically,” said PSPCA Lancaster Center site director
