Rev up for fun at the Double Clutch Show
BY CAT SHANNON
Afew years ago, Nick Sieber was searching for things to do in the area, and he stumbled upon an idea for a unique car show.
“After seeing a decline in community events, I gathered a group of friends and family and pitched the idea to host our own show,” he said. “I wanted something that was affordable, family-friendly and easy-going.”
Out of that meeting, the Double Clutch Tractor and Car Show was born.
“Everyone was supportive of the idea, and in 2021, we organized a very successful inaugural event,” he shared. “Since then, our show has grown by leaps and bounds, and I can’t hardly wait to see what the next five years has to offer!”
This year’s show will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, at Trinity Lutheran Church of Colebrook, 58 Church Road, Manheim.
“This is a cruise-in-style event. No registration is required,” Sieber said. “Prizes will be offered to the Best of Show and Best in Class vehicles. Classes are cars, trucks and tractors. The Best of Show award is open to any class.”
Over the years, entries have included pre-World War II cars

and trucks, original and unrestored tractors, a 1960s tractor trailer truck and Antique Automobile Club of America first-place winners.
Including tractors in the event is perfect for Lancaster County, Sieber said.
“Between the rural setting of the church and the agricultural roots for so many members of our community, highlighting tractors was a must,” he remarked. “This not only gives the owners of the equipment an opportunity to share their passion, but also for folks to learn more about the
importance of agriculture and meet the farmers who help make Lancaster and Lebanon County thrive.”
the entire family,” he said.

When Zachary Zahora joined Cub Scouts as a first-grader, he had a mission.
“Earning Eagle was always my goal,” said the current 11th-grader at Manheim Central High School. “It was important to me since Scouts has been such an important part of my life for so long.”
Zachary achieved that goal when he completed his Eagle Scout project and was officially recognized at a Court of Honor ceremony held on May 3. The Eagle rank is the highest achievement a Scout can earn, and for Zachary, it marked the culmination of years of dedication, growth and commitment.
“I wanted something that was affordable, family-friendly and easy-going.”
Sieber, who regularly organizes community events, also collects antique cars. He’s hoping to bring his 1916 Studebaker, 1919 Buick, 1928 Buick, 1930 Ford and 1940 Buick to the show.
He also hopes both car enthusiasts and people looking for something unique to do will come out for the show.
“This community-focused event has something to offer for

Beka Jones Music will perform songs from the 1960s to the present. Homemade food will be available for purchase from Trinity Lutheran Church of Colebrook and will include what Sieber deems the church’s “famous secret-recipe hamburgers,” as well as hot dogs and french fries. Various snacks and drinks will also be for sale. Udder Bliss Creamery will sell homemade ice cream as well.
Lawn games, barrel train rides, face painting and use of the church playground will be available for children attending the show.
“One of my main goals for this event is to keep it affordable,

For his project, Zachary chose to give back to his faith community by constructing bookshelves for the religious education classrooms at his church, St. Richard’s Catholic Church in Manheim. He began the project in the fall and completed it about a month before the ceremony. The bookshelves now serve as a practical addition to the church’s classrooms, helping to organize and store religious education materials for students.
Zachary said his long involvement in Scouting has been motivated by the activities and opportunities the program provides.

Event will raise funds to purchase prosthetic
BY GEORGE DEIBEL
The fourth annual IronLeg Corp. Golf Outing will be held Saturday, May 24, at Four Seasons Golf Club, 949 Church St., Landisville. The cost to participate includes the green fee, use of a cart, bagels in the morning, lunch, and non-alcoholic beverages. The registration deadline is Friday, May 23. Golfers should check in at 7 a.m., and the outing will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. To register for the event or make a monetary donation, go to https:// ironleg.org.
There will be prizes for the top two teams in the four-man scramble competition and opportunities to win a prize by scoring a hole-in-one on any par 3. One hole will offer the chance to win a car with an ace.
There will be a silent auction of authenticated sports memorabilia, including framed boxing trunks signed by both Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield, a framed Saquon Barkley Philadelphia Eagles jersey, and an item signed by star Penn State quarterback Drew Allar. Iron-Leg merchandise will also be for sale.
Iron-Leg Corp., a 501(c) (3) charity, is a three-person operation. Longtime friends Matthew Millhouse, Iron-Leg’s president, and vice president
Sean Laukhuff founded the organization in 2021. Secretary/treasurer Ashley Kimmich joined in 2024.
The group’s mission is to help purchase high-level prosthetics for people from ages 1 through 18. “We help cover what insurance does not,” said Matthew, who lives in New Danville. “We help kids get better prosthetics while they’re young instead of after they’re done growing.”
Iron-Leg has generated a total of approximately $60,000 in the first three tournaments. The proceeds from this year’s golf outing will benefit a 7-year-old girl from Massachusetts named Abby. Abby, who will be at the event, was injured in a lawn mowing accident when she was 3.
The cause is especially meaningful for Matthew, whose son, Parker, was born without a right leg. Parker, 12, is doing well and playing baseball this spring.
Matthew decided he wanted to assist families who are in a similar situation, and Sean eagerly agreed to help. Sean, who resides in Reading, is following his uncle’s lead: Ken Laukhuff answered a mother’s call for help when her son’s last wish was to talk from one truck to another on a CB radio. That charitable act was the genesis for what is now known as the Make-A-Wish Mother’s Day Convoy.

Kimmich, from Millersville, was friends with Sean and gladly stepped in to help with the Iron-Leg Corp. after her kids graduated from high school. “I was always involved with booster clubs and love helping kids with sports,” she said. “What (Sean and Matthew) do is really touching. For kids who want to run or play a sport, they need better prosthetics, and it’s sad if a (child) can’t play a sport because their parents can’t afford it. So I decided to join their team.”
Iron-Leg Corp is grateful for its sponsors, including Lancaster Nissan, Yale Electric, Aerotek, Lynch Financial LLC, The Exterior Company (TEC), Skywalker
Electric, and Dent Techs.
A trademark of Iron-Leg events is a huge American flag. “We’re a lot of fun. Anybody can say that, but we go the extra mile,” Matthew said. Matthew served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1995 to 2001. In 2019, he enlisted in the Air Force National Guard and continues to serve his country. Sean was in the United States Army from 1993 to 2005.
The trio shows no signs of slowing down. Iron-Leg held its first football game last fall, and another is planned for 2026. The IronLeg dance is also slated to return next year.
“We know this is the rest of our lives,” Matthew said.
Manheim VFW plans Memorial Day events
Manheim VFW Post 5956 will hold a Memorial Day parade and service on Monday, May 26.
The parade will start at Manheim Veterans Memorial Park, 320 Memorial Drive, Manheim, at 10 a.m. and will proceed down High Street to the square. It will continue north on Main Street and turn east on Gramby Street to return to the park.

Immediately following the parade, a service will be held at the Manheim Veterans Memorial. It will include a guest speaker, veterans’ stories, recitations, and music by the Manheim Central High School band as well as a local piper band. The ceremony will conclude with the playing of taps.
The featured speaker will
be retired U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Charles McGovern. Originally from Upper Darby, McGovern was drafted in 1970 and spent a year in Vietnam as an infantryman before being honorably discharged in 1971. Although he used the G.I. Bill to start a successful career as a master auto technician, after 20 years as a civilian he felt compelled to serve again. In 1994, at the age of 43, McGovern enlisted in the Pennsylvania National Guard, joining the 1st Battalion, 111th Infantry. While serving with “Franklin’s Own,” he deployed on a peacekeeping mission to Kosovo. Upon his redeployment in
2004, he became a full-time National Guard recruiter and later a training NCO (non-commissioned officer). When he retired in 2012, McGovern was the last Vietnam War draftee to serve with the Pennsylvania National Guard.
With 2025 marking the 75th anniversary of the start of the Korean War, stories of Manheim natives who served in that war will be shared. The stories will include that of a Marine who went missing, a soldier who was killed in action, and a soldier who returned to Manheim after his service and has been a vital member of the community.
Students sought for leadership program
Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), is seeking civic and environmental leaders in 10th through 12th grades to keep Pennsylvania clean and beautiful through the Young Ambassadors of Pennsylvania program.
One of the program’s aims is to attract the next generation of leaders to careers in state government. In December, the administration announced substantial increases in the number of Generation Z (Gen Z) and millennial employees who have joined the commonwealth workforce in recent years. This partnership, now in its fourth year, seeks to build on that success.
The Young Ambassadors
program empowers young community stewards and civic leaders to become ambassadors in their community for a shared vision of a clean and beautiful Pennsylvania. Ambassadors will have the opportunity to train and network with industry leaders, state agencies, local media, and the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful network, and they will receive a taste of life in the public service sector.
Students will be chosen through a competitive application process. Applicants should be passionate about the environment and committed to protecting Pennsylvania’s natural beauty and environmental health through volunteerism and leadership. Chosen candidates will be asked to commit to
serve as Young Ambassadors from September 2025 through May 2026 and represent and uphold the mission and values of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful.
Other responsibilities will include attending six mandatory virtual education sessions, conducting a community assessment and creating a summary presentation, organizing a community cleanup event through Pick Up Pennsylvania, and conducting one community education event or activity. Non-mandatory education sessions will also be offered on a variety of topics.
Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful will provide education and training to program participants on topics such as the impact of litter on roadways, litter
prevention, waste management and recycling, civic engagement and related public policy, volunteer management, and social media marketing. The program will provide networking opportunities to not only build a sense of community within the program but also to promote professional development of the individual students. In addition, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful has partnered with industry leaders to provide job shadowing days to select Young Ambassadors. Applications will be accepted through Tuesday, June 10. Students interested in applying may visit www.keeppabeautiful.org or contact Kylie McCutcheon at 724-836-4121, ext. 114, or kmccutcheon@ keeppabeautiful.org.

Both in-person and online pre-college classes will be offered and include creative experiences such as Introduction to Observational Painting, Introduction to Video Editing, Graphic Novel and Comic Creation, Fantasy Digital Illustration and Introduction to Short Story Writing, as well as always-popular,
intro-level classes such as Introduction to Digital Painting, Introduction to Digital Photography, Introduction to Oil Painting and Creative Writing: Finding Your Voice.
Many of these classes are taught by faculty from Pennsylvania College of Art & Design’s degree programs, including Raven Eckman, Randy Haldeman, Evan James, Leah Limpert Walt and Jason Ward.
PCA&D instructors are professional artists, designers and creatives who actively work in the fields they teach. This gives summer pre-college students the chance to explore creative industries and experience what it’s like to work in a college studio environment. The songs were written by early Anabaptists imprisoned for their faith in Passau, Germany. In the centuries since, the hymn tradition has grown, shaped by migration, new languages, ecumenical influence and

“I love camping with the Scouts. Every summer my troop goes to Camp Rodney in Maryland,” he shared. “My favorite memories at camp include building friendships with my fellow Scouts. I have stayed with my troop for so long because I have enjoyed the camaraderie.”
He recalled several highlights over the years, including events close to home.
“Every year we have a lock-in at Scout Hall where we all play games and eat and stay up all night,” he remarked. “It’s a lot of fun.”
Camping has been the standout experience of his Scouting journey, he added.
“My old Scoutmaster used to play music outside our campsite, and we would sit and listen to it,” he recalled. “Last summer, the troop got into a fun karaoke night and stayed up late singing and having fun.”
Scouting has also been a family tradition. Zachary is the son of Joe and Stephanie Zahora, who are both actively involved in supporting Troop 47.
“My dad is an Eagle Scout, and he and my mom

encouraged me to begin,” Zachary stated. “I would say that anyone who is uncertain about joining Scouts should give it a try.”
Zachary’s younger brothers, Tyler and Dylan, are also members of Troop 47, continuing the family’s strong connection to the organization.
Now that he has earned the Eagle rank, Zachary reflected on the journey and shared advice for other Scouts.
“I would encourage other Scouts to go for their Eagle because it’s a great accomplishment,” he said. “The memories I have made through Scouting will stay with me forever. I have learned a lot through Scouting.”

The Aastha Horizons Fund is managed and operated by a group made up of predominantly Lancaster County Indian-Asian Americans. Its mission is to help everyone in an attempt to make their home a better place to live.
“My favorite part is the philanthropy,” said Manjeet Kaur, one of the founders of the Aastha Horizons Fund and a resident of Manheim Township. “We’ve been given so much by Lancaster County, and now we want to give back. Everybody does it for different reasons. I saw my family and dad (give back). When you see enough of it, it feels like your duty.”
“Giving begins at home,” said Reema Parikha, an advisory group member who resides in East Hempfield Township. “I feel like this fund is the gift that keeps on giving. It’s amazing to see how these funds are used.”
Overseen by an advisory group and conducted in association with the Lancaster County Community Foundation (LCCF), the Aastha Horizons Fund is a giving circle that raises funds through donations and distributes them to Lancaster County nonprofits via a grant application process. The fund’s advisory group meets on a regular basis but does not operate from a brick-andmortar office.
Translated from Indian

culture, Aastha means faith, belief, trust and hope for a better tomorrow.
“Aastha is a very simple word,” said Kaur. “As humans, we can approach people who are looking at the dawn and give them a little bit of extra hope for a better tomorrow. It’s what we want to do. We want to make a difference. We want (the fund) to continue to grow.”
Aastha Horizons Fund’s grant process is initiated with advisory group members inviting local nonprofits to apply for grants. Once the grant applications are received, the advisory members meet as a group, discuss the nonprofits’ merits and needs and then vote on the applications.
Before a final approval is granted, the advisory group interviews officials of the nonprofits requesting the grants.
“We try to focus on organizations that are less heard of,” said Nishit Trivedi, a member of the advisory group who resides in West Hempfield Township.
“It’s not just the money,”

said Rao Sankarmanchi, an advisory group member and a resident of West Hempfield Township. “We’re looking for people to partner with as volunteers. We want to help out in any way we can.”
Typically, the Aastha Horizons Funds awards grants in the $2,500 range. In 2024, the fund awarded five grants to local nonprofits, and over the course of its three-year existence, the Aastha Horizons Funds has granted more than 10 awards, including ones to Power Packs, Lancaster-Lebanon IU13, the Turkish Philanthropy Funds, Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development, Milagro House, Aaron’s Acres, Reach Out and Read of Lancaster County, Lancaster Science Factory and Elizabethtown Community Housing and Outreach Services.
“As we’re going through the grant process, the organizations are getting to know us, and they’re sharing about us,” said Rakesh Popli, a member of the advisory group and a resident of West Lampeter Township. “In three years, I feel like we’ve accomplished some significant achievements.”
“I think the word is getting out (about the Aastha Horizons Fund’s work),” said founding member Deepa Balepur, who resides in West Hempfield Township.
Aastha Horizons Funds raises money through
events and private donations, some of which originate from the members of the advisory group.
“It’s a giving circle,” said Trivedi. “We have resources coming in, and the funds are managed by the Lancaster County Community Foundation, and the grants are written by the community foundation. While the funds are sitting there, they are invested and managed properly.”
Near the end of 2021, Balepur was an LCCF board member when she had an idea that evolved into the Aastha Horizons Fund.
“Deepa started the process,” said Kaur. “It was her vision, and she connected people. She called me to be part of the process. I was already involved with a similar organization, but we were mostly putting out fires. What Deepa told me is, ‘We’re trying to do it as continually funding.’ That really resonated with me.”
“I was exposed to the concept of collective giving at Lancaster County Community Foundation,” said Balepur. “It was very intriguing. As I started talking to people, there were others who wanted to be engaged as well. Everybody brings different levels of expertise. It started with ‘it sounds cool,’ but it can be better if we bring other people on board.”

especially for families,” Sieber said. “There is no admission fee for guests, no registration fee for show vehicles or charge for the barrel train ride or face painting. I want this to be an event that anyone can attend without breaking the bank! In order to help offset the costs for organizing this, we will be accepting donations for parking throughout the day.”
He noted that the rural setting of the show provides a shaded, relaxing spot for the event.
“Our show uses the beautiful grass picnic grove at Trinity Lutheran Church of Colebrook, which is surrounded by farmlands, mature trees and great outdoor amenities,” he shared. “Guests are invited to bring a lawn chair or blanket and relax in the shade around the bandstand overlooking the show field while enjoying live music and homemade food.”

Rock Ford to host chamber ensemble
Historic Rock Ford will welcome the Ephrata Chamber Ensemble for “Baroque on the Piazza” at the General Edward Hand Mansion on Tuesday, June 3, at 6 p.m. The ensemble will present Vivaldi’s Double Trumpet Concerto in C Major, as well as works by Handel, Telemann, Corelli, J.S. Bach and more.

The Ephrata Chamber Ensemble was started by local harpsichordist Faith Martin of Ephrata. After studying the harpsichord for several years, Martin realized that she most enjoyed using this instrument in collaboration with other musicians, which led her to organize the Ephrata Chamber Ensemble.
Her sister Mercy on the violin, her brother Clayton on the cello, and several musician friends and vocal soloists will join her to bring this program of live music to Rock Ford. Guests to Historic Rock Ford may recognize Faith and Mercy from their performances during the museum’s annual Yuletide event for the past three years.
The event will open at 6 p.m., and the music will begin at 6:30 p.m. There will be a short intermission.
Seating on the lawn in front of the piazza of the Hand Mansion is on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests should bring their own chairs. Blankets are not recommended so that everyone may have a good view of the ensemble on the piazza.
A general admission fee will be charged per ticket. When reserving tickets, guests have the option of adding on a charcuterie box from Graze Catering for an additional fee.
A gluten-free option is also available. The boxes include crackers, mixed nuts, a variety of meats, two cheeses, grapes, berries, honey, jam and a chocolate treat.
At the event, wine by the glass will be available for purchase by guests age 21 and older. Identification will be required.
Tickets may be purchased at www.HistoricRockFord. org/special-events.
Historic Rock Ford, located at 881 Rockford

Road, Lancaster, is comprised of the General Edward Hand Mansion and the John J. Snyder,
Jr. Gallery. It is owned and operated by the Rock Ford Foundation, a private, notfor-profit corporation.
