athy Anderson is hoping her children’s book
“The Green Bean Time Machine” will give readers some food for thought. It’s geared toward picky eaters ages 4 to 8.
“As an Integrative Nutrition health coach, I have worked with many clients who are interested in growing in their health and fitness,” said Kathy, who lives in Rapho Township. “Many are parents with young children, and the topic of picky eating often comes up during sessions.”
She shared tips, tricks and advice from a health coach perspective in sessions but realized she could turn the information into a book, creating adventures designed to encourage kids to grow in their own health and wellness journeys by eating more fruits and vegetables.
“The Green Bean Time Machine” follows the story of 5-year-old twins Billy and Bailey as they travel to the prehistoric era in a time machine.
“Without giving away too many details, the twins meet up with a very special dinosaur friend, help the dinosaur town and discover that bravery doesn’t just mean facing towering dinosaurs; it also means taking a bite of something green,” Kathy shared. “The story follows Billy’s hesitation to try

It’s something many of us don’t like to think about, but it’s something that will happen to every one of us. Death is a natural part of human existence, and, while it may seem tempting to ignore this reality, it’s important to plan for this stage.
With that in mind, Mount Joy Church of God will host “Planning for Life’s Final Season.” The talk will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, at the church, 30 E. Main St., Mount Joy.

When the Class of 2026 is inducted into the Manheim/ Manheim Central Hall of Fame, the group will include a film maker, a marimba virtuoso, an inventor, a wrestler and three individuals dedicated to public and community service.
The newest class will be recognized at a ceremony on Saturday, April 11, in the cafeteria at Manheim Central High School, 400 E. Adele Ave. A social hour will begin at 3 p.m., followed by dinner at 4 p.m. and an awards ceremony afterward.
As Denny Enck, vice president of the group, explained, the name of the Hall of Fame represents distinguished alumni of Manheim and Manheim Central high schools.
“We use Manheim/Manheim Central because anyone that graduated prior to 1950 graduated from Manheim High School,” he said. “After the merger of Manheim Borough, Rapho and Penn townships, we became Manheim Central High School.”
Nominations for the Hall of Fame can be made by anyone except board members, who then review the nominations and vote on approximately five to seven people to induct annually, he said.
The Class of 2026 is Vanessa Dohner, Jordan Enck, Christopher Hackman, Brenden Hubbard, Robert “Bob” Miller, Clair Omar Musser and Clarence Walton Musser.
Dohner, a 2005 graduate, built a career in public service and international law after earning degrees from Rutgers and Pace. She worked with U.S. Citizenship

Thousands of residents and businesses across northern Lancaster County and southern Lebanon County will have access to gigabit-speed internet offered by Upward Broadband following the activation of a new wireless broadband tower.
The new tower, funded in part through the Pennsylvania Broadband Infrastructure Program, expands broadband availability to more than 31,000 residents and businesses across the region. Communities where service is now available include Manheim, Lititz, Myerstown, Schaefferstown, East Petersburg, Mount Joy, Ephrata, Cleona, Lebanon and other surrounding communities. In many of these communities, residents previously had limited high-speed internet options.
To celebrate the milestone, Upward Broadband hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 11 at the Schaefferstown Volunteer Fire Company, where community leaders and local officials gathered to recognize the impact expanded broadband access will have on the region.
Speakers at the event
included Rachel Shetterly, representing Pennsylvania State Rep. Russ Diamond’s 102nd District; Jo Ellen Litz, Lebanon County commissioner; and Liz Ackerman, executive director of the Northern Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce. Each highlighted the importance of reliable broadband to local businesses, residents and the region’s long-term economic growth.
The new tower utilizes advanced fixed wireless technology capable of delivering gigabit speeds over long distances, dramatically increasing the capacity and performance of Upward Broadband’s network.
The expansion represents another step forward in strengthening Pennsylvania’s digital infrastructure and closing connectivity gaps in rural and underserved communities.
The project was financed in part by a grant from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, administered by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority. Residents and businesses can check availability in their area by visiting www .UpwardBroadband.com.
Stewardship consultant
Lynette Morales and certified financial planner and financial consultant Lisa McHenry will present the program.
“The conversation will be looking at how to make decisions about our ‘final season,’” said Adam Swarr, pastor of family ministries for Mount Joy Church of God. “How do we decide what to put in our will and plan for what happens afterward? It will also look at things like preplanning medical decisions through a living will and other aspects of planning for our future health, financial and emotional aspects as we age.”
Swarr understands this subject well, he said.
“Before getting into ministry, I was a licensed financial adviser for over a decade, so I know from experience this is a topic that most people haven’t thought about or are unprepared for,” he remarked. “Even people that put plans together find out there were things they didn’t think about it or plan for. My hope is that those in attendance will learn a few things they can use to make educated decisions about what’s best for themselves and their families.”

had a focus on the community, but this year we wanted to take it to the next level, and part of that is putting on a series of educational talks,” he stated. “We did a parenting event in February, now this one, and we have other events in the works for the fall.”
Both Morales and McHenry work for Everence, a financial planning company that serves Mount Joy and surrounding areas. Morales’ background includes more than 15 years of experience in the financial industry, providing guidance to pastors, churches and congregations in areas of stewardship and financial ministries. McHenry serves as an investment adviser representative and is a licensed insurance agent, providing clients

with financial planning, retirement and life transition navigation and investment management and socially responsible investments.
Swarr hopes people will attend to ensure a steady future for the family they leave behind when they die.
“With my background as a financial adviser, I’ve seen bad situations when someone hasn’t planned for that final season. I’ve seen families torn apart after someone passes away, fighting over how to handle things,” he said. “It’s all unnecessary. Having a proper plan can save a lot of heartache, fighting and oftentimes money. It’s always been my passion to educate people. Our church wants to be a community resource, so we are trying to provide free opportunities to help those
around us by teaching them practical tools they can use to improve their lives.”
No tickets are required to attend the talk, but people are asked to register at www .mountjoychurchofgod.org to ensure there is enough seating for everyone. Light refreshments will be available at the event.
For more information on Everence, visit www .everence.com.

The talk offers a way for the church to interact with people outside its congregation, he said.
“Our church has always

Jim Roberts of Mount Joy will compete in the 2026 One Lap of America. His participation will support the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC).
For the second year, his transit driver will be Rich Grant, a member of the Northern Virginia Corvette Club. Roberts and Grant will use Roberts’ new orange C8 Corvette and travel to various race tracks in Indiana, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Colorado, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Illinois. Roberts will do all the competitive driving on the tracks, and Grant will help to drive the highway miles and maintain the car.
The duo will travel about 3,400 miles for the event and almost 4,500 miles by
the time he arrives back home in just over a week. Along the way, they will compete against about 90 other teams.
This will be Roberts’ 17th time competing in One Lap of America. Over the past several years, he has raised more than $60,000 in total for PBCC. In October 2024 at the PBCC’s pre-conference Pink Party at the Hilton Hotel, Roberts received the Pennsylvania Shining Light Award for raising more than $50,000.
Roberts will place a sticker on the roof of the Corvette in honor of each person who donates. The donor’s name or the name of someone the donor wishes to honor or memorialize will appear on the sticker.

To donate by credit card, visit www.pabreastcancer .org/one-lap-of-america/.
Readers may also donate by stopping in at Jim Roberts’ West Main Auto, 14 W. Main St., Mount Joy.
For more information, visit http://onelap adventure.blogspot.com or search for “Jim’s One Lap Adventure” on Facebook.
The PBCC represents,
supports, and serves breast cancer survivors and their families in Pennsylvania through educational programming, legislative advocacy, and breast cancer research grants. The PBCC is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to finding a cure. For more information, readers may call 800-377-8828 or visit www.pabreastcancer.org.
green vegetables and the small but courageous steps he takes along the way.”
The book, which came out in January, is the first in a series of 10 Kathy plans to write.
“I see these books as a valuable tool to help parents gently guide their picky eaters,” she explained. “Each
will be released in May and will focus on bellyaches and gut issues. Each book will highlight a specific color of fruit or vegetable - green for the first book, orange for the second.
Kathy is no stranger to writing. She has previously published four books, including “Recalculating,” a book about navigating out of negativity that was released in 2017. Her other books include autumn and winter word searches and an Advent family devotional called “The Manger in the Middle.”

Her husband of 38 years, Dan, helped her with the word search and Advent books and will illustrate the rest of the books in Kathy’s children’s series, although she hired a different illus -

trator for “The Green Bean Time Machine.”
Kathy said writing books had never been on her bucket list until she saw an ad one day for a contest for free tuition for a self-publishing course for book writing. At the time, she was caring full time for her mother, who had dementia, and she thought writing would be a great outlet for self-care. She entered and won the contest.
“The school was wonderful and took me through the steps from blank page to a full written and published book,” she said. “It was a great experience, so when the time was right, I decided to continue with my writing.”
She transitioned from adult-focused books to children’s books after being inspired about a year ago.
“I originally got the idea for the book in February of 2025,” she recalled. “I was actually deep in prayer, and I believe the Lord gave me the idea and has prompted me to write these adventure stories for picky eaters. If anyone desires healthy kids, who more than the One who created them?”
She loves that her writing helps people, and she enjoys the creative outlet writing provides. She’s also written more than 200 songs and recorded a 10-song CD several years ago.
The most challenging part of writing, she said, is simply making time to do it. She’s busy spending
time with Dan, along with their three children and six grandchildren.
“Our grandchildren love ‘The Green Bean Time Machine’ book, and the illustration for the main character, Billy, was created with my 9-year-old grandson in mind,” she said. “They look very similar, so it’s extra sweet and meaningful to have this fun aspect to this book series.”
She advises others who are interested in writing books to first read as much as possible to learn what type of books are the most appealing to them and why. Then, she recommends, write about something you’re good at and ask yourself, ‘What can I teach people?”
She wants readers of her children’s series to understand why a child might hesitate to try certain foods and how to deal with the emotions parents might feel when feeding picky eaters.
“It can cause so much frustration for busy, hardworking parents who love their kids and really just want what’s best for them,” she said. “My hope is that families will not only grow in their health as their little ones learn to eat more fruits and vegetables, but that they would also receive the gift of a peaceful dinner table, where trying new foods is an enjoyable and normal experience.”
Kathy’s books are
