Manheim Central High School will hold its Mini-THON on Friday and Saturday, March 22 and 23. The dance event raises funds for Four Diamonds. Readers are invited to donate to the cause at https://fourdiamonds.donor drive.com/index.cfm?. Also supporting the event will be the “Readers Are Difference Makers” Reading Mini-THON, taking place at Doe Run and H.C. Burgard elementary schools on Wednesday, March 13, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Through the effort, monetary donations are being received for Four Diamonds and Child Life. All donations will be added to the high school Mini-THON’s total amount. The Manheim Central Foundation for Educational Enrichment (MCFEE) will host the 16th annual MCFEE 4 Kids Auction on Saturday, March 23, at the Manheim Brethren in Christ (BIC) Activity Center, 54 N. Penryn Road, Manheim. Doors will open at 4 p.m. for the silent auction and food stations, including gourmet desserts. The live auction will begin at 6 p.m. The live auction items will include Thanksgiving Day Parade passes and a hotel stay in New York

City, a stay at a resort, a Barons custom-made fire pit or cornhole set, and gift certificates. Sports memorabilia will include a variety of items autographed by Chicago Bears head coach and Manheim Central alumnus Matt Nagy. Items handmade by students in Manheim Central’s technology education department will also be available. The auction will feature the Doe Run Elementary and H.C. Burgard Elementary PTOs’ themed baskets, filled with gift certificates, games, crafts, books, and more. See MCFEE pg 5

will sponsor a concert, “Bach and Bonhoeffer,” at Lititz Church of the Brethren, 300 W. Orange St., Lititz, on Sunday, March 24, at 4 p.m. The program, featuring internationally acclaimed organist Felix Hell, will combine the organ music of J.S. Bach with the poetry of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Narration will be by local pastor Bob Kettering. A native of Germany, Felix Hell has been featured as a recitalist and concerto soloist in more than 900 concerts around the world. He holds positions at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Manhattan, the United Lutheran Seminary in Gettysburg, and the Sunderman Conservatory in Gettysburg. The concert is not a ticketed event, but there is a set suggested donation per person to support the Lancaster Chapter of the AGO. The public is invited. The church is handicapped-accessible.

Girls who celebrated completing their first 5K 10 years ago through Girls on the Run (GOTR) of Lancaster-Lebanon (left photo) and those who prepared to run a recent 5K in 2018 (right photo) have benefited from GOTR curriculum. This year’s spring 5K, which is open to the public, will be held on May 18 at Franklin & Marshall College.

Donegal Chapter of Trout Unlimited will join with other groups for its annual stream cleanup on Saturday, March 16. Attendees will meet at Millport Conservancy, 737 E. Millport Road, Lititz, at 8 a.m. to clean up Lititz Run. Email Dan Zimmerman at dzimmerman@donegaltu.org for more information.

In the 10 years since the Girls on the Run (GOTR) of Lancaster-Lebanon council was founded, the organization has racked up some significant statistics. “We’ve had 12,800 girls cross the finish

line,” said executive director Carrie Johnson, referring to both completing the program’s culminating 5K and finishing the GOTR 20-lesson curriculum designed to promote good choices for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy l i v ing.
