MONTHLY GATHERING

The No Longer Alone Family Support Group, a program of Landis Communities, meets on the fourth Sunday of every month. Beginning with the meeting on Sunday, Jan. 26, the group will meet on the campus of Landis Homes, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz. The meeting, which is open to the public, will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Crossings Meeting Room on the second floor of the Calvin G. and Janet C. High Learning and Wellness Center at Landis Homes. The focus will be on the topic “The History and Vision of the No Longer Alone Family Support Group,� and there will be reflections from group members. Following will be a time of sharing in small groups. The monthly meetings are intended to provide a place for those who have a loved one living with mental illness to learn and share their experiences. SPAGHETTI DINNER

Faith United Methodist Church, 1290 Fruitville Pike, Lititz, will host an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner on Sunday, Jan. 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. In addition to spaghetti, the meal will include bread, salad, and dessert, as well as gluten-free options. As Pilot Club of Central Pennsylvania founder Lisa Palmquist welcomed everyone in attendance at the club’s luncheon for caregivers on Jan. 11, she shared that the event was “a bit of a dream come true� for her. Palmquist worked as an instructional support teacher in the Hempfield School District for 26 years and spent many summers serving as a camp nurse at Aaron’s Acres, which offers summer camps for children and young adults with special needs. These experiences and others helped Palmquist to develop a deep sense of appreciation for parents and caregivers. “To be in their shoes 24/7 - it is just amazing what they do,� remarked Palmquist. “They need to remember to take care of themselves first, and that’s the message that I wanted to get across (at the luncheon): You need to take care See Caregivers pg 5

will hold its re-organizational meeting on Monday, Feb. 3, at 7 p.m. at the Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster. The meeting is important for new members, returning 4-H Club members, and their parents. Individuals who are unable to attend must turn in their enrollment form to the Extension office prior to Feb. 3. Club activities include taking part in dairy judging practices and competitions, a fitting and showing workshop, the county show, and more. Each meeting will have a different topic related to the dairy industry. All 4-H programs are available to all youths ages 8 to 18 prior to Jan. 1. On Thursday, Feb. 6, the Manheim Area Chamber of Commerce will host its annual meeting and dinner from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Barn & Barrel at Mount Hope Estate, 2775 Lebanon Road, Manheim. Vicki Close, founder, owner, and president of Holy Water Distillery, based in Lewisberry, will share her story of blazing the trail for female distillers in a male-dominated industry. Close is a first-generation RussianAmerican whose parents came to the United States after World War II. Festival Of The Arts To Spotlight Local Makers Changing The World One Life At A Time Main Street Mount Joy (MSMJ) will present the second annual Festival of the Arts from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25. The event is free and open to the community. Thirty local artists will have artwork on display and available to purchase at indoor locations stretching along Main Street in

downtown Mount Joy from Harvey’s Main Street BBQ, 304 E. Main St., to Keystone Pet Place, 100 W. Main St., as well as at Bube’s Brewery, 102 N. Friends In Action Gears Up For 2020 Trips “Tim, I know today is a workday for the project, but can I go to the Bible teaching this morning instead?� When Friends In Action (FIA) executive director Tim Johnston was approached with this question by a Rama Cay villager named Pete it was a moment to rejoice. Headquartered in Middletown, FIA supports mission work in areas of limited infrastructure worldwide by using construction projects and other practical service to spread the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to people who have never heard it before.
