They’ve gone to state prisons in Pennsylvania and minister to the inmates there.”

Santiago explained that banquet organizers felt Stoltzfus would be a good fit to speak at the event since he works with men and prisoners who are dealing with a range of situations. “He’ll be sharing his testimony (at the banquet),” Santiago continued. “He’ll talk about marriage, but he’ll also share how (incarceration) affected his life and affected his marriage.”

There were many family vacations and countless weeks spent chasing whitetail deer in southern Ohio.

Reflecting on a Career at VisionCorps

“I think I am most proud of the work that we have done over the years and how we have been able to expand our services and our footprint to serve more people,” reflected Dennis Steiner, president and CEO of VisionCorps, who recently announced his retirement. “That is what our mission is - to empower people who are blind to achieve independence. To me, that is what we are here for.”

Steiner, who started as a VisionCorps case manager in 1984, has 42 years of experience working in the field of blind and low-vision services, including 17 years as president and CEO of VisionCorps. He was succeeded by Megan Tomsheck effective Oct. 31.

“I have been blessed to have a great leadership team here. Many of them have been here for quite some time,” Steiner noted. “Megan is an 18-year employee. I have a good mix of longevity and newer people. They are all committed to our mission. They are all passionate about their work and a good team to lead.”

Steiner was responsible for helping to establish new services during his tenure. His accomplishments include introducing youth programming to the agency and mentoring young people; expanding VisionCorps from one facility in Lancaster to additional rehabilitation and employment sites in Adams, Chester, Lebanon and York counties; and increasing the focus of rehabilitation services to include new technology offerings such as smart glasses, magnifiers and apps.

FALL CLEANUP

CFC To Open Second Location at Chestnut Hill

One hundred years after its cornerstone was placed, the historic Chestnut Hill Church building at 344 W. Chestnut St., Lancaster, has been revitalized. Community Fellowship Church (CFC) has completed a 10-month renovation of the landmark and will celebrate the grand opening of its second location with its first public service on Sunday, Nov. 23, at 9 a.m.

CFC will also host a Worship & Prayer Night

on Thursday, Nov. 20, from 7 to 8 p.m. and a community open house on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 9 to 11 a.m., both open to the public. Guests are invited to tour the building, meet the pastors, and enjoy live worship. Coffee and refreshments will be served during the open house.

The $4 million renovation, led by Arthur Funk & Sons Construction, preserved the building’s

architectural beauty while equipping it for modern ministry. The 25,000-square-foot space features upgraded HVAC, security, and audiovisual systems; refreshed gathering areas; a new 75-seat balcony; brightened stained-glass windows; and new classrooms for children.

Nathan White, who relocated from Missouri to help launch the new location, will be the main teaching

pastor at Chestnut Hill. The story behind the project is one of God’s timing and provision. As Chestnut Hill Church, an aging but faithful congregation, sought a way to continue its legacy of ministry, Community Fellowship Church was prayerfully searching for a place to expand. Their connection and shared vision has become what both congregations recognize as a clear act of God’s orchestration.

Gesang-Buch,” featuring a crafted bookplate mentioning Elisabeth Reist, written by Joseph Gingrich in 1850.

The auction will also feature the rare book

“The History & Life of the Reidenbach Mennonites”; a 1736 edition of “Hoffnung besserer Zeiten Kleiner

Abend-Schein”; an 1814 “Martyrs Mirror”; multiple volumes of “Mennonite Quarterly Review”; and an 1853 map of the Township of East Hempfield, Lancaster County, mounted on wooden poles. man, and he ministers to men through his organization, particularly using the vehicle of hunting to do that and make connections with men and their sons and to care for their children.”

There are six sponsorship levels for businesses, and the deadline to register is Monday, Dec. 15.

“We’re still looking for sponsors for both events, business sponsors,” said Santiago. “Then eventually after business sponsors and table sponsors, we are looking for people to purchase tickets.”

RTCM, which recently moved into a new facility in Ronks, offers faith-based teaching, resources, and

counseling to aid men in the process of overcoming their addictions. The nonprofit helps the men learn valuable life skills, receive vocational training, connect with local churches, and transition back into the community.

Dayspring Christian Academy, 120 College Ave., Mountville, will present “Thanksgiving Exposed: The True Story of the Pilgrims” on Friday, Nov. 21, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the school. Guests will select a specific time slot for a living history walkthrough tour that will take about one hour. This live re-enactment of the true story of the Pilgrims is based on primary sources, including the original manuscript recorded by William Bradford, governor of the Plymouth settlement. Thanksgiving Exposed takes guests first through a timeline that starts with Jesus Christ being the focal point for all of history. The story traces the Gospel from Jesus to the Apostle Paul and onward. Guests briefly learn about

the impact of historical figures and events like King John and the signing of the Magna Carta, John Wycliffe translating the Bible into English, and Martin Luther and his 95 Theses. The tour moves on to the Reformation and Elizabeth I and James I, when persecution began for reformers in England, setting the stage for the rise of the Separatists.

Guests then move through six stations that highlight God’s hand in establishing the Plymouth Colony in New England. The stations tell the Pilgrim story from the Pilgrims’ beginnings in Scrooby, England, through their escape to Holland and their voyage to the New World. “Thanksgiving Exposed” enables guests to witness how the seeds of Christian self-government were planted and later gave rise to the United States of America.

In “This Sacred Ground: Stories From Soil and Scripture,” Andrew will display and discuss his new series of large-scale graphite drawings of ancient trees - works that invite viewers to encounter creation as both fragile and enduring, temporal and transcendent. Drawing on themes from his forthcoming book “Every Somewhere Sacred: Rescuing a Theology of Place in the American Imagination,” Benjamin will provide a critical framework for reflecting on these artworks, raising questions about beauty, place, and the theological significance of the Earth. Historic Rock Ford Sets Presentation

Historic Rock Ford, 881 Rock Ford Road, Lancaster, will present “The Tavern Cook: Eighteenth Century Dining Through the Recipes of Richard Briggs” by internationally renowned food historian Marc Meltonville on Friday, Nov. 21, at 6:30 p.m.

Meltonville will provide a look at what was cooked, poured, and celebrated in the 18th century, from kitchen hearths to tavern punch bowls.

The lecture will take place in the Langmuir Education Room on the first floor of the Rock Ford Barn. Attendees should park in the area behind the barn.

The lecture is free, but

game changer for people who are blind and vision impaired,” said Steiner, who is legally blind. “(There is) software that allows the iPhone or computer or read to you what is on the screen.”

He added that people can use their phones to shop for any items that they need, including food from the grocery store. “(Technology) has opened up a lot of doors and opportunities for the blind and the visually impaired community,” said Steiner. “I can’t imagine living without my iPhone or computer because it allows a greater degree of independence.”

Steiner and his wife, Candy, reside in Lancaster Township. Steiner said he is looking forward to spending more time with his family and two grandchildren, but he added that he also plans to continue to advocate for the vision impaired.

“I am going to be involved with the agency at some level, doing some public policy work or whatever Megan asks me to do. You don’t spend your whole career and just walk away from an organization like this,” he shared. “I haven’t lost the passion for the work, but it’s time for me to step down and spend some more time with family. I felt like now was the right time.”

Million sold this month!

Having been a visually impaired leader of an organization, Steiner has also set an example for others. “I am a CEO who happens to be blind,” said Steiner prior to his retirement. “I want people to recognize that people who are blind can do almost anything that sighted people can do.”

VisionCorps provides rehabilitative, preventative and educational services to help individuals with vision impairments live and work independently. All services are provided free of charge.

“Many people ask me, ‘Why did you stay at one place for so long?’ I love the organization, and I love the community,” he added. “Lancaster, central York and Chester counties are great places to raise a family. VisionCorps has given as much to me as I have given to them. It’s been a great relationship.”
