“Veterans, Values, and Voices: Words in Search of Our Missing Peace II” will showcase the veteran experience through art, poetry, music, and storytelling. The event, which was first held in 2018, will be hosted by Writeface at the Ware Center, 42 N. Prince St., Lancaster, from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10. Writeface co-founder Scott Hower, who is an Air Force veteran and a Conestoga resident, noted that the event was created after Lancaster’s Spoken Word Festival was discontinued. Writeface is dedicated to helping military veterans develop a healthier spirit through guided writing exercises and had led a class at the Ware Center in

conjunction with the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts, so creating a similar event seemed like a natural fit. “We picked it up as a way for veterans to tell their stories the way they want to tell them,” said Writeface co-founder Annie Ginder of Willow Street. At the event on Nov. 10, about 14 or 15 people will participate in some way. The majority are veterans, although Ginder and several other civilians will also be part of the program. “Everybody knows a veteran,” Hower explained. Marc Zito, an Army veteran who lives in Ephrata, and East Lampeter Township resident Stephen Shaw, who served in both the Marines and the Army, will reflect on transitions. See Writeface Event pg 3

Ana Simmons will be one of more than 20 vendors who will participate in the fifth annual Lampeter UMC Art and Craft Market and Silent Auction on Nov. 2.
The fifth annual Art and Craft Market and Silent Auction hosted by Lampeter United Methodist Church (UMC), 1101 Village Road, Lancaster, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. More than 20 vendors are slated to sell handmade items. “Come get an early start on your Christmas shopping,” suggested coordinator Mary Dale. Among the vendors will be Ana Simmons of Ana’s Captivating Designs, who produces sweaters, mittens, hats, and scarves from wool felt. There will be several jewelers, including Lisa Henderson, who creates sterling silver jewelry utilizing carefully selected natural stones. Veterans Day, a federal holiday, is celebrated annually to honor people who have served the United States in the military in war and in times of peace. In accordance with the

Restoration of the Huey 823 UH-1 helicopter was recently completed, and, weather permitting, it will land at Marticville Middle School after the conclusion of Martic MOST’s annual Tribute to Veterans event on Nov. 9. The community is invited to attend the tribute.
