Stumptown Mennonite Church, 2813 Stumptown Road, Bird-in-Hand, will host a fall art and craft fair on Saturday, Oct. 12. Local crafters and artisans will sell handmade crafts from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vendors will offer handbags, greeting cards, needlework, paintings, jewelry, and more. “Once again, we are excited about serving our community with a free pig roast, along with some small carnival and family-focused fun games,” said Gary Roberts, director of outreach and discipleship at Calvary Baptist Church, 530 Milton Road, Lancaster. The congregation’s annual Oinkfest will be held on Sunday, Sept. 29, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Roberts noted that the church strives to create a fun-filled, family-oriented atmosphere at Oinkfest, so there will be a variety of activities for children ages 2 to 12. These will include a bounce house, balloon sculpting, face painting, and a dunk tank. “Oinkfest has a carnival feel to it, so
dress casually,” Roberts suggested. “Come and enjoy the fresh mouthwatering popcorn, cotton candy, and a variety of flavored snow cones. All of this is designed to put a smile on the faces of everyone who attends.” In addition to the snacks and sweet treats, a homecooked pig roast meal will be served. a documentary film by National Geographic, will be shown in the SciDome Theater at North Museum of Nature and Science, 400 College Ave., Lancaster, on Monday, Sept. 30, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Made possible by a donation from National Geographic, this showing of the award-winning 2018 documentary is free and open to the public. In it, filmmakers follow nine high school students from around the globe as they compete at the annual International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). This event coincides with the opening of registration for the North Museum Science and Engineering Fair (NMSEF). The NMSEF is Lancaster County’s only ISEF-affiliated fair, and the top two students will compete in the International Science and Engineering Fair in Anaheim, Calif., in May 2020.
