he Strasburg Community Parks Foundation will host its second annual car show on Saturday, July 16, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Strasburg Community Park, 151 Precision Ave. Proceeds will benefit the Strasburg Community Park. In the case of rain, the event will take place on Saturday, July 23. “We were thrilled by the turnout last year and know that our car show was very exciting for both exhibitors and spectators,” said Barbara Rathbone-Frank, board member of the Strasburg Community Parks Foundation and chairperson for the car show. Exhibited vehicles will be on display within the park, behind Strasburg Borough’s Municipal Complex and along Precision Avenue. Part of Precision Avenue will be temporarily closed for this event. “Prize-winning vehicles are determined by votes cast by participants and visitors,” said Rathbone-Frank. “The prize categories are also unconventional, such as ‘I could have had a V-8!’ for a special car with V-8 engines and ‘You Had Me in Stitches’ for the vehicle with the best upholstery.” Award winners will be recognized during the final hour of the show. Last year’s show had over 200 vehicles on display. “Cars just seem to stir passion within some folks,” shared Fred Witmer, a classic car owner and volunteer. “I know the exhibitors loved the all attention their vehicles received from spectators.”

“Project Lifesaver is for people who have cognitive impairment that makes them prone to wander,” said Kelly Osborne, community services officer and Project Lifesaver coordinator with the Pennsylvania State Police, Troop J, Lancaster County. Now that the State Police officers serving in Lancaster are affiliated with Project Lifesaver, the service is available in all areas of the county. Individuals who are enrolled with Project Lifesaver wear a bracelet connected to a transmitter set to a designated radio frequency assigned to that person. If the individual wanders, the battery-operated device emits a signal that can be traced by law enforcement. “Should a (participant) go missing, the caregiver calls a local police department. (Police officers) plug in the frequency to pick up that specific transmitter,” explained Osborne, who noted that the equipment See Project Lifesaver pg 3

Car enthusiasts are invited to enjoy the display of vehicles at the second annual car show in Strasburg Community Park. Jeff Primaldi (bottom photo) promoted the car show with magnets on his 1968 Chevy Nova during Strasburg’s Memorial Day Parade.

In addition to viewing the vehicles, visitors may listen to music played by DJ Rockin’ Roy Probst, including tunes with auto-related themes. There will be door prizes and giveaway drawings, as well. A shaded dining area will provide a place to eat food such as Italian ice, hand-dipped ice cream and other items, which can be purchased at several on-site several food trucks. Activities for children will include games operated by volunteers from the Strasburg-Heisler Library, which will be closed on July 16. The Lancaster County Bookmobile will be parked at the event.

“We’re planning for a fun day where people of all ages can enjoy the cars on display as well as our beautiful park that features native wildflowers, grasses and trees,” said Justin Tekely, chairman of the Park Foundation’s development committee. The Lancaster County Art Association, located next to the park, will open its galleries to visitors, as well. “Our galleries will be open during the car show and include two displays: ‘Farm to Table’ and ‘Road Show,’” shared Carol Herr, Art Association gallery director. “‘Road Show’ will feature art that depicts vacations and vehicles.” In

addition, some prints of works displayed in these shows will be available for purchase. Registration for car show exhibitors is by donation and will take place on the day of the show. The show is free of charge for spectators, and parking will be available in nearby streets. Handicappedaccessible parking will be available off Hampden Drive.
