Cruisers To Hold Annual Car Show BY MARCELLA PEYRE-FERRY

ancaster County Cruisers will hold its 22nd annual car show on Saturday, July 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine, at the Willow Street Fire Company grounds, 2901 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street. Cars, trucks and motorcycles are all welcome, including those that are not running. “We get a combination of just about everything,” club member Jack Parke said, noting that some entrants use trailers to bring vehicles that are in the midst of the restoration process. “I encourage (vehicle owners) to bring them. This shows people what can be done.” He noted that the show offers old cars, which hold a fascination for some who remember a family car from their childhood or who own one themselves, as well as newer show cars with the latest extras and fine detailing. In a typical year, more than 250 cars are on display, and the show goes rain or shine. “We take our chances,” Parke said. Vehicle owners will be asked to pay a registration cost per vehicle. Dash plaques will go to the first 150 registrants. Numerous trophies, door prizes and cash prizes will be presented

throughout the day. Cars owned by members of the Lancaster County Cruisers are not eligible for trophies or prizes. Trophies are donated by local businesses and sponsors, who personally select the winners. While the cars are an attraction for automotive enthusiasts, family members can also find something to enjoy. Live music will be provided all day by DJ Jeff Grimaldi. Vendor booths will also be on the grounds with a wide variety of merchandise to peruse. Food, beverages and ice cream will be available to purchase, and there will be a sale of baked goods. There is no admission fee for the public, and plenty of parking will be available. Visitors are asked to bring nonperishable food items to support the Solanco Neighborhood Ministries food bank. Proceeds from this year’s event will also go to the food bank. Lancaster County Cruisers was founded in 1994 and welcomes any car, truck or motorcycle enthusiast. The club holds monthly meetings and other events in addition to the annual car show. A team of Lampeter-Strasburg (L-S) students won the bronze award in this year’s Lincoln IU12 Fourth- and FifthGrade STEM Design Challenge. The L-S Castaways - consisting of fifthgraders Madison Adams, Esther Brubaker, Madison Carpenter, and Emma Stiles - ran with their teacher Eric Balak’s suggestion to enter the competition to “improve or redesign the future of transportation.” The students designed a floating car both protected by and powered by magnets.
