Two Willow Street residents have been chosen to represent the state in agriculture advocacy. Cassidy Kuhl, 26, and her daughter, Harper Chase Kuhl, 4, won the titles of 2020 Pennsylvania Mrs. Agriculture USA and 2020 Pennsylvania Tiny Miss Agriculture USA after a competition in March. The pair had served as the Lancaster County titleholders last year along with Cassidy’s sister-in-law, Rebecca Kuhl, who was the Lancaster County Teen Miss Agriculture USA. Harper Chase had been the state runner-up in her age group. At the state title competition, Harper Chase placed first in interview, agriculture wear, formal wear, and the photogenic category. She finished second in introduction, impromptu question, and essay. Cassidy received first place in all seven categories as well as in speech. The directors of L-S Together, a nonprofit organization serving as a resources hub for the Lampeter-Strasburg (L-S) School District, invite neighbors to fill wheelbarrows with household cleaners, first-aid supplies, and hygiene items - along with a hearty dash of optimism - as part of the Essentials Drive set for Tuesday, June 16. The project has been assigned #hopebarrows on social media, as the goal of the Essentials Drive is to replenish the stock of two local food pantries so they can effectively serve their clients. Items collected will be dispersed between Mission Church, 651 Lampeter Road, Lancaster, and First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg, 101 S. Decatur St., Strasburg. The Essentials Drive organizers hope that district residents will set wheelbarrows or other containers in front of

their homes so that neighbors and loved ones are able to safely drop off donations. Then, on June 16, participants are asked to bring the items to Victory Church, 114 W. Franklin St., Strasburg, between 6 and 8 p.m. Families that live close to the church are invited to push their filled wheelbarrows to the trailer in front of the building, weather permitting. Individuals are also welcome to drive up to drop off items. A list of desired goods has been created for the Essentials Drive. All items must be new and unopened. “These items are in high demand and are costly to the families,” explained L-S Together founder and coordinator Jenice Weaver. “For many of us, donating the (requested) items ... is fairly easy, but it’s an important way to help people who cannot afford them on their own. Supporters of Haitians Helping Haitians (HHH) for Christ will hold a chicken barbecue fundraiser on Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mellinger Mennonite Church, 1916 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster. Meals and chicken only will be sold, with the former including a halfchicken, a roll and butter, coleslaw, applesauce, chips, a dessert, and a beverage. Cash and checks made out to Haitians Helping Haitians will be accepted. The proceeds will be used to help to build a community center in Haiti, and all funds received by the end of the year, up to $30,000, will be matched by a donor, said board member and Willow Street Mennonite Church pastor Joe Sherer. HHH was founded by Elage and Betty Metzler Estime. Elage grew up in

the Haitian communities of Montrouis and Charrier. He was raised in a Christian family of eight children, who were still young when their father died. Elage attended Mission Possible School, thanks to a sponsorship. He enjoyed visits from mission teams and became involved with outreach efforts by using his small allowance to purchase bananas and bread for neighborhood children. After attending Youth With A Mission, Elage focused on serving in Haiti. He and Betty, a Lancaster County native, met in 2010, when she was part of a medical mission team, and they married in 2012. Elage’s ministry has grown and has become multifaceted. Initially, the Estimes self-funded the ministry, but a board of directors was formed to assist them and broaden the support, Sherer said. HHH provides food support for local schools, orphanages, and prisons See Haitian Ministry pg 5
