Senior Spotlight Class Of 2021 Prepares To Graduate
n Friday, June 4, at 7 p.m., approximately 240 seniors from Lampeter-Strasburg High School (LSHS) will graduate. The commencement ceremony will take place at the LSHS football stadium and will be streamed live on YouTube. In an interview with the Advertiser, LSHS senior class officers Parker Owens and Jenna Lapp reflected on their time as seniors. A resident of Millersville, Parker is the senior class vice president and the son of Mick and Stephanie Owens. This fall, Parker will attend Carnegie Mellon University to pursue a career in mechanical engineering. The daughter of Amos and Freda Lapp, Jenna lives in Lampeter and is the senior class treasurer. After graduating, Jenna will attend the University of Richmond.

Advertiser: How did your senior year go? P a r k e r : There are several moments I will remember for the rest of my life, such as what school was like with COVID, the great memories I made with my friends, playing football with my team for one last year, and so many more amazing experiences. Jenna: My time as a senior has certainly been challenging, not just academically, but also because of dealing with the pandemic. My classmates and I have had to miss out on all the fun events we have looked forward to since kindergarten, but I am thankful for what we still got to do and the new perspective of gratitude I gained from the experience. Advertiser: Are there any teachers or staff who made an impression on you? Parker: Several teachers helped sculpt who I am today and helped me achieve my goals. One of my See Graduation pg 4

Seniors from the Lampeter-Strasburg High School (LSHS) girls’ lacrosse team gave a donation to the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute in Lancaster. It is an annual tradition for seniors from the LSHS girls’ lacrosse team to choose a charity to support by raising funds. This year, the team collected donations during its charity night at the April 29 game against Manheim Township. After the funds were collected, the team’s booster club matched the donation total, explained team member Malaina Baucon.

Except for 2020, every year since 1994, Water Street Mission (WSM) has hosted a Drive Away Hunger Golf Tournament. This year’s tournament will occur on Friday, June 18, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Meadia Heights Golf Club, 402 Golf Road, Lancaster. Supporting the general ongoing financial needs of caring for those experiencing homelessness in Lancaster County, WSM’s annual golf tournament invites local business professionals to enjoy a round of golf at a private club. After the match, participants will enjoy a catered meal with other players.
