Lampeter-Strasburg High School (L-S) will hold its commencement ceremony on Friday, May 30, at Pioneer Field at JK Mechanical Stadium beginning at 7 p.m.
The gates will open at 6:15 p.m. If there is inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved indoors to the L-S Performing Arts Center, and only those with tickets will be permitted to attend. Regardless, the district’s YouTube channel will livestream the proceedings.
Approximately 220 members of the Class of 2025 will receive their diplomas; the valedictorian,
salutatorian, and the third in the class will be announced during the ceremony.
Senior class vice president Catherine Wolgemuth initially feared cloudy skies during the annual Senior Sunrise on Sept. 6, 2024, would be a harbinger of bad things to come, but it was the beginning of a banner year for the group. “We still had fun, and we still got Long Johns,” she said.
Catherine, who is planning to study marketing at East Carolina University in the fall, said she enjoyed the pep rallies and Clash of the Classes events. “It’s really interesting to see your class come together to compete, and
watching the class cheer everyone on is fun,” she said.
Class president Preston Schonour, treasurer Carson Zook, and secretary Danny Weichler were members of the Pioneers football team that played in the state championship game. “The football season was super memorable,” said Preston, who will attend William & Mary. “How we’ve come together as a senior class and all the activities we’ve done together have been awesome. The musical productions and concerts made me realize how talented our class is. It was great to see the seniors get their moment in the spotlight and

Wesley United Methodist Church (UMC) and the Strasburg Seniors are collaborating on an event that will benefit both the church’s mission of the month and the seniors’ group’s birthday bash next year.
An indoor yard sale will be held Saturday, June 7, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Wesley’s air-conditioned fellowship hall, which is next door to the sanctuary at 40 W. Main St., Strasburg.
Wesley UMC has held indoor yard sales in the past, but this will be the first time the Strasburg Seniors are assuming a leadership role. Money generated from rent for the 6-foot-long tables will support the seniors’ organization. Space is limited. Tables can be rented by calling 717-371-8753.

There will be two rides, which will be held rain or shine, and both will begin at 10 a.m. A 3.5-mile supported ride through town will be led by the Strasburg Borough police and is suited for casual riders and families. There will also be a self-supported 30-mile ride for intermediate to advanced bicyclists that will wind through Strasburg Township and will include changes in elevation.

The Class of 2025 took a trip to New York City on May 22. Forgetting a teacher was in the room, Preston let it slip that a Senior Skip Day was planned. The day before graduation, the seniors will gather for Long Johns in the morning before attending a barbecue sponsored by the school’s PTO.
“The Lampeter-Stras -
burg Class of 2025 has done an exceptional job throughout their high school career, as they have achieved so much success in their academics, athletics, music, art, and extracurricular activities,” L-S principal Benjamin Feeney said. “The Class of 2025 has demonstrated characteristics of solid leadership, humility, empathy, generosity, and integrity. I am confident that the Class of 2025 is prepared to take their next step into college, military, or the workforce, and they will find a tremendous amount of success. I am so proud of the L-S Class of 2025 and wish them all the very best upon graduation. Congratulations, L-S Class of 2025. Roll Pios!”

People who have rented a table may set up their wares on Friday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. “You don’t

The church will have a table selling Christmas ornaments and wreaths. Although she
will not be certain until she sees what vendors are bringing, Graybill expects there will be typical yard sale items like antiques, clothes, and household goods for sale.

Proceeds from food sales will benefit A Week Away Foundation, which coordinates and finances respite weeks for families with a member who is battling a life-threatening illness, Graybill said. A Week Away was founded by Lampeter-Strasburg graduate Caleb Walker, who died in 2014. Robino’s food truck will sell breakfast sandwiches from 7:30 a.m. until mid-morning, Graybill said.
Patzer noted that the Strasburg Seniors group has been in existence since 1966. “When I became president two years ago, we started looking at other ways to do fundraising,” she said. Patzer talked with Graybill, who is also a director with the Strasburg Seniors.
“It can be difficult finding a suitable fundraiser for seniors,” Patzer said. “It’s tough to find things we could do.”
Patzer stated that the group provides recreation opportunities and supplies information to its members. “We want to make the most of our senior years,” she said. “How do we best do that? How do we meet the challenges? What’s available to us? There are programs out there, and we keep people informed.”
The Strasburg Seniors meet the third Wednesday of every month at 1 p.m. at Strasburg Fire Company, 203 W. Franklin St., Strasburg. Refreshments are served, and there are guest speakers. Anyone age 50 and above is welcome to join. “If you can get here, you are within our range,” Patzer said.
The group also goes on trips. “And we keep an eye on each other,” Patzer added. “We have a lot of seniors who have retired to this area, and they may not have family close by. I think that’s an important part of what we do.”

The Strasburg Seniors group will celebrate its 60th anniversary next year. “We want to have an event where we can invite the community,” Patzer said. “(The yard sale fundraiser) is a start in that direction. We are hoping this goes well so we can invite the public to our birthday.”

“They have a lot of programs for people in our area,” said Ryan Dagen, one of the ride’s organizers. “They’re making a bigger and bigger impact in the community, and I really believe in what they’re doing.”
Ryan and his wife, Janae, own Speckled Hen, and the Dagens and Jon Sager own Bespoke Brewing. Tim and Kristie Nies own Barebones Bicycle & Fitness, which is also located in Strasburg.
Ryan, a graduate of Lampeter-Strasburg High School, will take part in the 3.5-mile ride along with his parents, Janae, and his and Janae’s three children. “One
of the things we wanted to make sure of when doing the bicycle ride is there was an option for a more casual ride to do with your family,” said Ryan.
Ryan has been an avid bicyclist since he can remember. In 2007, he embarked on a cross-country trip starting in Ocean City, Md., and made it over 2,000 miles to western Colorado before being seriously injured in an accident.
In addition to Speckled Hen, Bespoke Brewing, and Barebones Bicycle & Fitness, the benefit bike ride is sponsored by Red Truck Heating & Cooling, Pellman Foods, Conestoga Country Kitchens, Metzler Home Builders, DavCo Advertising, and The Carriage House. Ryan is hoping the
