The Solanco Cross-Country and Track Alumni Association will host a one-hour race and team relay on Saturday, June 11, at the Art Harrington Track Complex at Solanco High School, 585 Solanco Road, Quarryville. In the case of severe weather, the event will be held on Sunday, June 12. Registration is open to all Solanco student-athletes, families, alumni, and friends of Solanco crosscountry.

The event, which will take place under the lights, will feature two races: one for individuals and one for relay teams of four runners. Individuals and relay teams will attempt to log as many miles as they can during the one-hour run on the Solanco track.

Two special categories to be featured this year are the Walk With Waggs Challenge, which will be held during the individual race, and the Lancaster-Lebanon League Cross Country (LLLXC) Team Division. The Walk With Waggs Challenge is for those who wish to walk at their own pace or with former Solanco coach John Waggoner. For the LLLXC Team Division, Lancaster-Lebanon (L-L) League cross-country teams have been invited to join. Awards will be given to the members of the top three boys’ and girls’ L-L high school relay teams. Coaches and family members of the visiting schools are also welcome to participate as individuals or as relay teams.

All individuals and relay teams are responsible to have their own lap counter for the event. Registration and check-in will be from 5:30 to 6 p.m. The individual race and walking event will take place from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m., with the team relay from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. High school relay awards will be bestowed at 8:30 p.m.

The per-person cost includes the opportunity to pick running merchandise from a prize table throughout the evening. The event will also feature music and door prizes.

Split Focus

The Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) and Associates Chapter 1008 of Lancaster will hold a wreath laying and ceremony in honor of Memorial Day on Sunday, May 29, at 1 p.m., rain or shine, at Greenwood Cemetery, South Queen Street, Lancaster, at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The memorial was erected in the early 1980s in honor of Lancaster County Vietnam veterans who gave their lives in service to their country.

Taking part in the ceremony will include the Lancaster County Veteran Honor Guard and the Vet 21 Gun Salute, which will do a rifle salute and taps. Memories of the military personnel honored on the memorial will be shared in addition to reading the names of departed VVA members from May 2021 to the present. Family and friends are welcome to participate.

The Quarryville Lions Club will present its 2022 summer concerts at Huffnagle Park. Events will be held on select Saturdays, and the series will open on May 28 with Split Focus.
