Event To Bring Civil War History To Life
which will include infantry, dismounted cavalry, gun collections, camp life information, artillery and rifle demonstrations, a mortician, and a lead casting station. Firing demonstrations will take place on the battlefield, as will a battle on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at noon. The Old Iron Grill plans to be operational by noon on Friday and to continue offering food throughout the weekend. Visitors may access the parking area from Swift Road. Handicapped-accessible parking will be available along the edge of the field closest to the event. Visitors should expect some uneven terrain. A nominal parking fee per vehicle will be charged. Arthur Moore, sharing information about the boys of the Civil War; author Bruce Mowday; and Frank Vattelana, a collector of Civil War photography. Re-enactors Alan Farley and Faith Farley will act as members of the United States Christian Commission. Visitors may converse and pray with them throughout the event and join them for a worship service on Sunday at 1:15 p.m. following the battle re-enactment. The Farleys will also have their coffee wagon on-site. Attendees may visit both Union and Confederate military camps,
Auction To Benefit Youth Group Missions An evening of live and silent auctions will be held at Grace Community Church (GCC) of Willow Street on Friday, May 13. Normally an annual event, the auction is returning after a hiatus due to the pandemic. Proceeds from the event will benefit the church’s youth ministry, GCC Youth, helping to defray some of the costs of upcoming summer mission trips. The auctions will feature a wide variety of items donated by the local community and GCC members. Items will range from gift baskets and Amish-made furniture items, including a glider, to a gift basket from Lancaster Archery Supply. Participants may bid on gift baskets, evenings out, miniature golf, theater tickets, train rides and more. There will also be a weekend cabin rental in Mount Gretna,
Artillery and rifle demonstrations will be part of the Living History Encampment and Tactical Demonstrations event.
Living History Encampment and Tactical Demonstrations event will be held at the Robert Fulton Birthplace Museum and Garden, 1932 Robert Fulton Highway (Route 222), Quarryville. The event will be open on Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday, May 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Camps will also be open from noon to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 20. At the Living History camp, reenactors will portray President Abraham Lincoln, first lady Mary Todd Lincoln, and their sons Robert and Tad as they were in 1865. People may visit with the family members throughout the weekend and participate in a family sit-down at 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tad will be
