The Lancaster Chapter Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) will hold a meeting and dinner on Thursday, Oct. 17, at Bent Creek Country Club, 620 Bent Creek Drive, Lititz. A social hour will begin at 5 p.m., with dinner and the meeting to follow. Chapter officers and directors will be elected. Retired Col. Ed Hurston, United States Air Force, will present an overview of the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program at J.P. McCaskey High School. Zion Church Plans Fall Harvest Bash By Dayna M. Reidenouer

The congregation of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 85 E. Brandt Blvd., Landisville, is excited to host its firstever Fall Harvest Bash on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 4:15 p.m. at the Lancaster Liederkranz pavilion, 722 S. Chiques Road, Manheim. “This was Pastor’s idea,” fellowship committee chair Millie Gundel said. “She wanted a bash, and not just a bash, a big bash.” Interim pastor Barbara Caruana has helped to organize similar events at the previous churches she has served, and she finds them a valuable aspect of congregational life. “Church is about being outside of here,” Caruana said, gesturing to Zion’s facility. “(It’s about) being neighborly and part of the community.” Jim and Kim Paternoster, who are See Fall Harvest Bash pg 5

This year, the Gifts That Give Hope (GTGH) Lancaster Alternative Gift Fair is moving to a new location. The 12th annual event is set to take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, in Landis Hall at The Junction Center, 1875 Junction Road, Manheim. People may visit with representatives of 30 nonprofits that are providing lifechanging benefits to people in both local and global contexts. Individuals will have the option of purchasing charitable gift donations to honor loved ones, and each of those gifts will include a greeting card and an explanatory insert about how the donation will sustain and provide for others. FLEA MARKET, BAKE SALE

Calvary Homes, 502 Elizabeth Drive, Lancaster, will hold its annual flea market and bake sale on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 8 a.m. to noon in the fellowship hall located in the Nissley Building. All proceeds will benefit activity programs for residents at the retirement community. The bake sale will feature a variety of home-baked items made by residents and friends. Job Fair Set For Oct. 16 In Mount Joy By Chelsea Peifer

Engle Printing & Publishing Co., Inc. (EPC) is teaming up with the Mount Joy Chamber of Commerce and PA CareerLink Lancaster County to host a job fair on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at The Gathering Place, 6 Pine St., Mount Joy. The event is free and open to the public, with no registration required. More than one dozen area employers are signed up to participate in the inaugural event, where job seekers will have the opportunity to visit with various company representatives and learn about part-time, full-time, and seasonal job openings.
