RUMMAGE, FOOD SALE

St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 100 W. Main St., Mountville, will hold its annual rummage and food sale on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 8 a.m. to noon. Items to be sold will include clothing, books, food, and miscellaneous items. The indoor sale will be held in the church social hall, which may be accessed from the rear of the church. The East Petersburg Historical Society will hold a volunteer work day at the Daniel Wolf House, 1905 State St., East Petersburg, on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. to noon. The house, which is more than 200 years old, is in need of maintenance work. The World War II Oral History Club will feature German-born Hermann Pfisterer, who experienced life inside the Third Reich, at its next meeting, set for Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. The club meets at St. Anne’s Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., Columbia, on the last Tuesday of the month except December. The Lancaster Area Sewing Network will hold its next meeting on Monday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m. at the Lancaster Friends Meetinghouse, 110 Tulane Terrace, Lancaster. The meeting will be a work night during which attendees may prepare and sew items for infant bereavement at Penn State Hershey Medical Center; they may also work on pants. A Modern Twist On An Ancient Art By Dayna M. Reidenouer

Quilters, crafters, and all others interested in the arts are invited to attend the Quilt Show and Artisan Market (QSAM) hosted by the Lancaster Modern Quilt Guild (LMQG) on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Manor Church, 530 Central Manor Road, Lancaster. Readers familiar with the LMQG may recall the annual bazaar that the group previously held. “We changed the name the third year to better reflect our show of modern quilts that we have created,” explained LMQG director of events Sue Althouse. “We have vendors that are artisans to appeal to everyone, not just quilters, hence the name Quilt Show and Artisan Market.” The vendors at the QSAM will include makers of pottery, wooden

bowls and carvings, handweavings, glassworks, jewelry, clothing made from upcycled materials, and more, as well as several with quilting/sewing supplies and vintage buttons. Photos and information about the vendors are being posted on the LMQG Facebook page throughout September. Readers may visit www.facebook.com/Lancaster MQG to view the posts. Althouse noted that some vendors will only accept cash. The QSAM will offer opportunities to win gift baskets, large and small quilts, and a new Bernina sewing machine. The winning tickets will be drawn between 2 and 2:30 p.m. Bucky’s BBQ food truck will be on-site, selling meat-based and vegetarian dishes, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Groff ’s Candies and Sugar Goddess Patisserie will sell a variety of sweet treats. Celebration Day along with a Blessing of the Animals service on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. According to the Rev. Clifton D. Eshbach, pastor of Holy Spirit, the event is a time to celebrate pets and the love they give their owners. “We want to share with our neighbors a fun event that will celebrate the happiness pets provide and to give them a blessing for the coming year,” he said, adding that more than 100 people and their furry, feathered, and scaled friends participated in the event last year. Each family in attendance will receive a free “pet pouch” that will include items for both animals and owners. Door prizes for children and adults will be awarded following the Blessing of the Animals service, which will take place at noon.
