Hempfield recCenter and the Hempfield Woman’s Club invite the public to the annual Labor Day Community Flea Market on Monday, Sept. 3, at Amos Herr Park, 1700 Nissley Road, Landisville. The event will begin at 7 a.m. Merchandise for sale will include household items, handmade crafts, books, tools, collectibles, and gently used children’s furniture and toys. A food vendor will be on-site, and children may play in the newly installed Dream Park. Spaces measuring 20 by 30 feet may be reserved for a fee by calling 717-898-3102 or contacting Catherine Hamby at chamby@hempfieldrec.com by Thursday, Aug. 30. Proceeds will fund Everyone Belongs, the rec center’s financial assistance program, and the Hempfield Woman’s Club’s charitable programs. ANNUAL PICNIC

Landisville Church of God will hold its annual church picnic on Sunday, Aug. 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the Salunga Park Pavilion, 65 W. Main St., Landisville. The public is invited to attend. A worship service will take place at 10:30 a.m. with Mark Cable performing. Lunch will follow the worship service, and fried chicken, beverages, and place settings will be provided. Golf Outing Will Support LCCC Food Hub Labor Day Auction Set For Sept. 1 And 3

Approximately 11 out of every 100 people in Lancaster County do not know where they will get their next meal. “That’s a pretty significant number in a community of our size,” Lancaster County Council of Churches (LCCC) executive director Gail Rittenhouse observed after sharing the grave statistic. “Our Food Hub is filling that gap. (People experiencing food insecurity) know they can come to us and leave with 40 to 50 pounds of food once a month.” Last year, the LCCC Food Hub provided fresh and nutritious food to nearly 29,000 individuals, which is an increase of more than 3,400 from 2016. The majority of clients pick up food from the Food Hub, located at the LCCC headquarters at 812 N. Queen St., Lancaster, where in addition to receiving prepacked bags of nonperishable food, See Food Hub pg 3

Hospice & Community Care’s 34th annual Labor Day Auction will be held at the Solanco Fairgrounds, 101 Park Ave., Quarryville, on Saturday, Sept. 1, and Monday, Sept. 3, beginning each day at 7:30 a.m. with Amish-made food, specialty auctions, and packed schedules. The Labor Day Auction is free to attend, with proceeds from winning bids and food sales benefiting patients and families receiving hospice and palliative care and bereavement support. The two-day event will feature new and used items up for bids, a furniture auction, an array of gift certificates and gift baskets, and five specialty auctions. The community is invited to the 31st annual Heart of Lancaster Arts and Craft Show on Sept. 1 and 2 at Root’s Country Market in Manheim. Two hundred exhibitors, artist demonstrations, live music, food, and giveaways will be part of the two-day event. Admission and parking are free. By Chelsea Peifer

brooms, baskets, cards, iron, and leather crafts are just some of the artisans and craftspersons who will share their talents at the 31st annual Heart of Lancaster Arts and Craft Show. This year’s event is set to take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. See Heart Of Lancaster pg 4

Hempfield recCenter will host the 19th annual Honey Run 5K and Kids’ Fun Run on Sunday, Aug. 26, at Amos Herr Park, 1756 Nissley Road in Landisville. The festivities will begin at 5 p.m. with the Kids’ Fun Run for children age 11 and under. Those in the 5 and under and 6 to 8 age groups will run a quarter mile, while the 9 to 11 age group will compete on a half-mile course. All participants will receive ribbons, and the top five finishers in each age group will receive medals. The 5K Honey Run will start immediately following the children’s run. The race will award age group prizes for first-, second- and third-place finishers. Overall male and female finishers each receive a cash award and a honey bear trophy. See Honey Run 5K pg 4

The program will explore the 1960s and will focus on the trend of color blocking and how to incorporate color and color blocking in garments. Attendees may bring garments from that period to share during show-and-tell. Refreshments will be available. There is a nominal admission fee for guests. Registration is not required.
