I’d love to try it.’ The historic dance group requires a pretty extensive commitment to practicing and getting a costume, so we were starting to think (that this) is a good way to have people try out English country dance, which is the type of dancing that the Hand family would have done.” McSherr y added, “English

Church Posts “Bring a Friend Sunday” The Faith Sharing Team at Zion Lutheran Church, 85 E. Brandt Blvd., Landisville, has announced that every Sunday in August will be an open house and Bring a Friend Sunday. The Bring a Friend program has been offered throughout the last year, and now the invitation is being extended to everyone in the community, regardless of whether they already know anyone at Zion. Foundation Receives Funding to Expand Program Touchstone Foundation has been awarded $255,766 through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) Violence Intervention and Prevention (VIP) grant program to support the expansion and strengthening of its Rise Above program. Launched in 2022, Rise Above was created to help eliminate stigma surrounding youth mental wellness while empowering young people with tools for resilience, self-awareness, and advocacy. The program brings mental wellness programming and youth mentorship to Lancaster County schools for students in grades seven through 12 as well as to young adults ages 18 to 26 in community groups. The program seeks to create inclusive spaces that foster belonging , reduce stigma, and encourage open conversations about mental health. One of its goals is to reduce long-term risk factors associated with trauma and mental health challenges. Through creative expression and guided conversations, students may build emotional
awareness, develop coping skills, and gain confidence to advocate for themselves and others. The consistent presence of a caring, supportive adult is a protective factor for many childhood adversities. Supportive adult mentors can protect and buffer children from toxic stress, help children heal and build resiliency, and inspire young people to build strong relationships. T hroug h the recent competitive award, Rise Above will expand its reach significantly, with a goal of serving 1,120 Lancaster County students and young adults by 2029. With support in 2024 from the L ancaster County Community Foundation’s $35,000 Shaping Tomorrow Next Generation Grant, part of a broader $1 million investment into L ancaster County initiatives, Touchstone Foundation is expanding Rise Above into Lancaster County schools through school-day workshops, after-school programming, summer intensives, and community-based groups for young adults. Thurston took the idea to Hope Inspire Love’s board of directors in January of 2025, and by the fall of that year, the proper documentation was submitted to the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office. “We made sure this was truly a great fit,” said Amy. “It’s not just two organizations joining names. It’s a collective force for good in our community. We have to be willing to consider what’s best for the people we ser ve. Neither organization was looking for this, but this came about. We didn’t force it. It was meant to be.” Amy and Steve Thurston founded Hope Inspire Love in the basement of their home in 2017. The organization has performed a wealth of good in those short years since. “It started as a dream of something we had to do,” said Amy. “It started with awareness and education. We have expanded our services, and now we have over 100 volunteers giving back. Hope Inspire Love will serve as the lead organization, and the Lemoyne-based She’s Somebody’s Daughter will perform outreach services. “This was just a beautiful next step,” said Amy. “This allows us to better impact and really help survivors in our region. It’s a natural alignment in the right direction. It’s not a mission drift; it’s a mission realignment. We don’t ever want there to be barriers for Hope Inspire Love. This was an easy ‘yes.’ There was no pause or reservations.” The consolidation allows the two nonprofits to work as one and to provide better services and reach more victims and potential victims of human trafficking in L ancaster, Dauphin, Franklin, Lebanon, York, Berks, Cumberland, Adams, Perry, Montgomery and Lehigh counties. Operating under the tagline “Better Together, Stronger Together,” Hope Inspire L ove, which is headquar tered at 1380 Har r isb ur g P ike , L ancaster, now also operates offices in Lemoyne and Chambersburg. Nolan Rucci is a very goal-oriented young man. He sets goals, plans, executes and follows through on the process before he achieves them. Right now, Rucci is focused on one very difficult but attainable goal - becoming a professional football player. “Focusing on that one thing is important,” said Rucci. “Getting better at football is another goal. As a rookie, it’s almost like being a freshman in college; you’re the low man on the totem pole. I’ve been enjoying the process of getting better. Eventually, that leads to success on the field and ultimately making the team. “ You might show up one day and your locker is cleaned out,” continued Rucci. “That’s the NFL. You’ve got to give 100% every day, whether that’s on the field or in the film room. I’m trying to get better at the things I need to get better at.” Rucci, a 2021 graduate of Warwick High School and a 2025 graduate of Penn State, is an undrafted free agent who is attempting to make the Indianapolis Colts’ roster as an offensive lineman (OL). Since May, Rucci has been put through all the paces at the Colts’ off- season workouts, including rookie camp, organized team activities and mini camp, as well

It’s the same game I’ve been playing since high school, but it’s the big show.” C ur rent ly, the Colt s have 15 offensive linemen in camp, and they plan to keep anywhere from 10 to 12 OLs to populate their 53-man opening day roster and their practice squad. Rucci’s odds of making the team may simply be a matter of perception. “That’s definitely a way to look at it,” said Rucci. “There’s been competition in the room, but the vets have been great. I’m very thankful for the guys in the room. They’ve been very helpful.” Following a successful career at Penn State, Rucci figured to have an outside chance of being selected in April’s NFL draft. While that did not happen, he did learn of Indianapolis’ interest in him during the staging of the draft. “It was definitely somewhat disappointing,” said Rucci. “I knew it could be a day two or day three thing.
After a successful college career at Penn State, Warwick product Nolan Rucci is attempting to make the Indianapolis Colts’ NFL roster as an offensive lineman.
After the fourth round, I got a call from my agent, and he said, ‘ The Colts want to sign you after the draft.’ It took a little bit off my shoulders. I was very excited to get the call.” After transferring from Wisconsin following his sophomore season, Rucci was part of the Nittany Lions’ offensive line rotation as a tackle during his junior and senior campaigns. He earned All-Big Ten honorable mention honors after his senior year. I n D e c e m b e r, R u c c i graduated from Penn State with a degree in geography. Overall, it was an experience - both on and off the field - which has prepared him well for the current challenge he is facing. “Obviously, it was not a straightforward journey for me,” said Rucci. “Going to Penn State was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my career. It helped me be the player I am today. I probably wouldn’t be here without it.
“Growing up in Lititz, the NFL felt like a crazy, far-off thing,” added Rucci. “Then you’re playing in college and you realize what an awesome opportunity it is, so you try to take advantage of every single day. My dad (Todd) and brother (Hayden) have been great resources. Football to me is a path to greater things. I’m super thankful.” Despite the fact that he does have options, Rucci has yet to formulate a Plan B. “I’m just trying to keep my feet on the ground,” said Rucci. “Like, ‘What’s the plan for the next 24 hours?’ Making the team is a goal, and so is making sure I’m getting my body right for the next practice. “I didn’t end up here because I’m crazy talented,” concluded Rucci. “I think a lot of it is putting your head down, grinding and working hard every day. It’s not like an impossible process to get here. It was a team effort to get where I’m at.”
Program to Focus on Removing Stitches Lancaster Area Sewing Network (L A SN) will present “Undoing Things” on Monday, July 27, at 7 p.m. at Lancaster Friends Quaker Meeting , 110 Tulane Terrace, Lancaster. Carrie Rhinier will share techniques for removing many types of stitches without damaging the project. Rhinier will also discuss tools that can be used to safely rip out stitches and how to avoid the stitch-rip-stitch cycle. Attendees will be given the opportunity to tr y their hand in undoing stitches. They should bring a pair of snips with a fine point, as well as a seam ripper.
Rhinier has been sewing for 51 years. She has a Bachelor of Science in interior design and has accumulated a wealth of sewing experience through various avenues, including operating her own sewing and alterations business for the last 27 years. She is retired from Sight & Sound Theatres, where she was a sample maker. She has volunteered as a sewing instructor for a Lebanon 4-H program for the last nine years. Nowadays, Timothy spends most of his time at the gym or coaching himself. One of his clients is his wife, Andrea, who competed at her first show last month. She won the show and was awarded an Organization of Competition Bodies (OCB) professional card, which subjects her to year-round drug testing. OCB professionals are completely natural and cannot use many of the common recovery supplements. The couple has two kids, Noah and Uriah. Andrea only started bodybuilding after having kids, and she now serves as the gym’s
general manager. “Because we were so invested in the gym, we needed transformations,” Andrea said. “Why I did it initially was to help him launch this online coaching, so that he could transition to doing this full time.” Many people see the images posted on social media from competitions and think that bodybuilding is a glamourous sport. What they do not see, Timothy said, is the months or even years of prep work that go into each and every show. Getting into shape for a show requires months
of discipline and strict planning, eating the same meals repeatedly, skipping family events for rest, and hitting the gym every day at a specific time. Both Weavers said that those getting into the sport need to know why they are doing it. It is not a sport that is easy to stay motivated in. “ The show ’s done, no one cares,” Timothy said. “Let’s be real. It’s cool for you, but it’s not a team sport. ... It really just has to be something for you.” Timothy spoke highly of what bodybuilding has done for his life, outside
of being in physical shape. He said that the sport gave him the confidence that made him so successful in his sales career and beyond. The extravaganza has been staged at its current location since 2021. LCFMC also hosts an annual one-day show at Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, 450 W. Main St., Mountville, in the fall - this year on Saturday, Nov. 7. The nonprofit organization is also planning a fossil safari event later this year. “Members of LCFMC enjoy sharing their collective knowledge of fossils and minerals with others to pass on their knowledge and enthusiasm to current and future generations,” said Hae fner. “LCFMC shares this interest through its shows , communit y engagement events and teaching about geolog y
and paleontology to local schools and civic organizations. LCFMC also teaches others to follow safe and ethical fossil and mineral collecting practices.” LCFMC meets at 7 p.m. on the last Thursday of ever y month at Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ in Mountville. United Disabilities Services Foundation (UDS) recently held a gala with the theme “Beyond 60: Your Impact. Our Journey.” The sold-out event brought together 500 guests for a night dedicated to service, community connection, and philanthropy. The event was defined by teamwork and storytelling. When the scheduled keynote speaker, John Kruk, was unable to attend due to illness, Teresa Rineer and the UDS Gala Committee pivoted to keep the event on track. Stepping in for their friend and teammate, Mickey Morandini and Tommy Greene - members of the 1993 Phillies National League Championship team - joined Dave Spadaro for a fireside chat and a VIP meet-
and-greet with supporters. The program also included on-stage conversations with those directly impacted by UDS. Attendees heard from Brendan Fry and his sister Julianna, representing the Challenger Football and Cheerleading Program, as well as Griffin Swan, who was joined by his parents and his service dog, Jackson, from the UDS Service Dogs program. The gala raised nearly $540,000 via sponsorships, ticket sales, and an auction, all of which will fund UDS’ mission to deliver support and personal care to people with disabilities and older adults. Cadets John Barger of Manheim and Warren West of Lititz earned their promotion to cadet airman and received the Curry Award. Cadet Senior Airman Luca Hermosillo of Wrightsville was recognized as Cadet of the Month for April. Cadet Staff Sgt. country dance is a centuriesold form of dance. It is still really popular worldwide. There’s modern English country dance, groups that do new dances and things, but traditionally, it’s the type of dancing you see, for example, in a Jane Austen movie where men are lined up on one side, ladies on the other. We don’t care about that at our social dance just as long as there’s two lines, but traditionally, that’s how it would be done. And then you’re dancing with the other couples, moving up or down the line.” Historic Rock Ford held its first social dance last year and has two more scheduled in 2026. “(The social dances are) a potential way to recruit people for the historic dance group if people really enjoy it,” said McSherry. “We came up with the idea of social dance, which is a type of program that many different organizations do. They do it for different types of dances. There’s a very strong English countr y dance, social dance community around the country.
We tapped into that network to try to start our own program, and it was very successful last year. … It’s been a really fun time,” said McSherry. “It’s been a great success. We get people of all ages, from young kids.” All of the dances are taught. “ You don’t have to have any experience,” McSherr y said. “People explain how it works, and you get to walk through it a few times before we try it with music. There’s a nice mix also of experienced and not experienced, so, if you have questions, someone around you can also help.” The dances that will be performed originated from music in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. “Some of those dances are much older,” said McSherry. “They just do new movements to them, new choreography to them. They get updated, but the tunes themselves are pretty old. It’s a fun chance to come and try something new, something maybe you’ve been curious about, whether you’ve seen it in films or on different TV shows.”

Promise Players Post Auditions T he Promise P layers will hold auditions for the group’s fall play, “See You in Bells,” on Sunday, Aug. 23. Auditions will be held between 1 and 6 p.m. at Lampeter Church of the Brethren, 1900 Lampeter Road, Lancaster. The play will be performed from Thursday to Sunday, Nov. 5 to 8, and Thursday to Sunday, Nov. 12 to 15. “See You in Bells” is a comedy centered on a wedding that faces numerous obstacles, including three generations of weddings with inexplicable disasters, a church building that is falling down, half the wedding party missing, and the
bride’s sisters still fighting over what happened at the last wedding. But the bride’s brother is determined to end the sisters’ feud and the family curse. Roles are available for 16 actors: six males, six females, two teen girls, one teen boy, and a good-nature d minister. T hos e auditioning should come prepared to read from the script, and they may arrive early to complete the audition form and look over the script selections.
