Commencement Set For Class Of 2020 The Hempfield High School Class of 2020 will celebrate commencement on Tuesday, June 2, at 7 p.m. Herff Jones, in partnership with MarchingOrder and StageClip, will livestream the ceremony on YouTube Premium. Students will be provided with a livestream link that they may share with their loved ones. The virtual graduation will include speeches by Hempfield School District superintendent Michael Bromirski, school board president Mike Donato, valedictorian Charles Pohl, class president Evan Benedict, and Student Council president Brandon Koehnke, as well as recognition of the Class of 1970. The
names of the graduates will be announced; more than 80% of the seniors submitted personalized video clips and photos to highlight their individual achievements. Current students will also sing the national anthem, a choral benediction, and the school’s alma mater. The graduates will receive their diplomas on Wednesday, June 3. The school has created three options from which each graduate may choose. They may select a timeslot at one of the district’s elementary buildings and walk across its stage, drive up to the high school and be handed their diploma See Commencement pg 7

Youths Earn Eagle Scout Rank

Boy Scout Troop 267, based out of Silver Spring in West Hempfield Township, has announced that six Scouts have earned their Eagle Scout rank. The Scouts will receive the rank of Eagle Scout at the Troop 267 Court of Honor banquet, to be held at The Gathering Place in Mount Joy at a later date. A total of 100 Scouts from Troop 267 have

earned this honor. Brady C. Loucks, 17, is the son of Thomas and Charity Loucks of Mount Joy. Before becoming a part of Troop 267, Brady was a member of Cub Scout Pack 181, located at Ironville United Methodist Church, where he earned the Arrow of Light, the highest award of Cub Scouting. In his time in Troop 267, he has held the leadership positions of patrol leader and troop historian. He has also earned his Bronze and Gold Palms. His peers elected him to the Order of the Arrow, the national honor society of the Boy Scouts of America. For his Eagle Scout project, Brady built and installed a walking bridge at the Columbia Fish and Game Commission. See Eagle Scout Sam Fields Awards pg 2
Virtual Convoy Scheduled For Aug. 16 By Ann Mead Ash
In April, COVID-19 restrictions put Make-AWish of Philadelphia, Delaware and Susquehanna Valley, an organization that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening diseases, in a precarious position. Concern for the children served by Make-A-Wish, who fall into high-risk categories, was of the utmost importance. Wishes were postponed, and the popular Mother’s Day Convoy, which was ready to make a move to the Manheim Auto Auction, was postponed. The convoy is now scheduled as a virtual event to be held on Sunday, Aug. 16. In the meantime, Make-A-Wish needed to raise funds, preparing to grant more than 450 local wishes when the organization is able. To make those wishes come true, the organization See Make-A-Wish pg 6
Make-A-Wish of Philadelphia, Delaware and Susquehanna Valley grants the wishes of children with life-threatening diseases. While COVID-19 restrictions have made that mission difficult, the organization recently held a giving week that raised nearly $100,000 toward making that goal easier.
