Story Marks Returns BY ANN MEAD ASH

Before COVID-19 restrictions were enacted in March of 2020, a group of women was holding a monthly event called Story Marks. Story Marks focused on ladies gathering together for friendship and networking opportunities. Attendees also heard stories from women who have had experiences that others can learn from.

This April, the first live and inperson Story Marks session in more than a year was held. Organizer Tracey Strohecker called the evening “amazing.” Strohecker had an agenda prepared for the evening, but as she looked around at the gathering of 20, she decided to take a slightly different course. “I happened to say, ‘Why don’t we go around and introduce ourselves and say a little something?’” See Story Marks pg 9

Honoring Veterans In 2021 t has been announced that the Mountville Memorial Day Parade will not occur this year. The Reese-Hall Mountville VFW Post 8757 will still place American flags at the graves of all veterans interred in the 11 cemeteries in and around Mountville on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31. In place of the Memorial Day Parade, the VFW Auxiliary Post 8757 decided to honor past and present members of the armed forces with tribute street banners around Mountville. Each banner, measuring 20 inches by 40 inches, will include a military picture of the service member,

along with his or her name, rank, branch, and dates of service. Members of the VFW Auxiliary expressed their gratitude to the Mountville Borough for sponsoring the creation and distribution of these banners. Those interested in having a banner made should contact VFW Auxiliary members Mike Gienic at 717-625-5184 or Amy Marenick at 717-572-1797. Spots are limited and banners will be made on a firstcome, first-served basis. All banners are scheduled to be displayed by Sunday, July 4. On Wednesday, June 16, the Mountville VFW will sponsor the 13th annual PA Hero Walk. From Saturday, June 12, to Saturday,

June 26, participants in the PA Hero Walk will travel from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh to fundraise for Pennsylvania veterans. The group will pass through Mountville on June 16 and the Mountville VFW will provide hospitality. “We’re all about the community and I’m proud of our little town,” said Bob Froelich, commander of the Mountville VFW. The Mountville VFW and VFW Auxiliary welcome new members. Those interested in joining the VFW Auxiliary may contact Susan Wile at swile3033@comcast.net. To join the Mountville VFW, Froelich suggests filling out an application in person at 48 E. Main St., Mountville.

The past year has been challenging for many people, especially students. Instead of canceling end-ofthe-year events for seniors, the Hempfield School District decided to get creative. The Hempfield High School (HHS) prom is typically held at the Eden Resort and Suites in Lancaster. Due to the pandemic, the Eden as well as the school district have
