Hershey Rotary Club Awards Grants

Trinity United Church of Christ (UCC), 40 W. Pine St., Palmyra, will hold an 11 p.m. service of Scripture and song on Tuesday, Dec. 24. The service will focus on the story of Jesus’ birth and will incorporate candlelight and Trinity’s Moller pipe organ. Attendees will share Scripture readings, and there will be choral, ensemble, and congregational singing. The Rev. Donte Jones will share the message. COCOA WITH SANTA
Harrisburg River Rescue and Emergency Services, 725 S. 22nd St., Harrisburg, will host its inaugural Cocoa With Santa event on Saturday, Dec. 21, from 10 a.m. to noon. Children will be assisted in selecting a toy, and cocoa and baked goods will be provided. There will also be a holiday movie, crafts and coloring activities, and holiday-themed games. will hold its 27th annual New Year’s Eve Party for Children, with a countdown to noon instead of midnight, on Tuesday, Dec. 31. It will be held at the Sunoco Performance Theater at the Whitaker Center, 222 Market St., Harrisburg. This year The Popcorn Hat Players will present “Beauty and the Beast.” Doors will open at 10:30 a.m., and the performance will begin at 11 a.m. Tickets can be purchased at www.gamut theatre.org/tickets or by calling 717-238-4111.
The Hershey Rotary Club continued its annual community philanthropy by awarding just over $50,000 in grants and advertising sponsorships on Nov. 25 at its weekly meeting at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center. The recipients of the grants and sponsorships are local organizations that benefit the citizens of Derry Township and Dauphin County. Included in the list of organizations that received grants are the following: Boy Scouts of America, Cocoa Packs Inc., Derry Township Community Cats, Hershey Area Playhouse, Hershey Community Archives, Hershey Community Chorus, Hershey-Derry Township Historical Society, Hershey Food Bank, Hershey Public Library, Hershey Story Essay Contest, Hershey Symphony, Hershey Theatre Apollo Awards, Hershey Volunteer Fire Company, Hope Lodge/American Cancer Society, Literacy Council of Lancaster-Lebanon, Love INC, Middletown Public Library, Mohler Center, Ronald McDonald House and William S. Bowman Trust. The Hershey Rotary also provides funding to several other organizations throughout the year, including Hershey High School Boys’ Volleyball Booster

Student-Athletes Announce College Decisions
Fifteen Lower Dauphin High School student-athletes signed letters of intent on Nov. 13 to continue their education and athletic careers. Fifteen Lower Dauphin High School student-athletes announced their college or university decisions at an NCAA early commitment day ceremony on Nov. 13 in the school gymnasium with coaches, family and friends in attendance. Nine field hockey players signed
letters of intent. Brandelynn Heinbaugh is the daughter of Kelly and Brandon Heinbaugh. She is a co-captain for the Falcons and a member of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association all-academic team and a firstteam Mid-Penn Conference All-Star. She
Additionally, the Hershey Rotary supports several philanthropic initiatives in Africa and South America. Notable among these are projects focusing on healthy families in Ecuador, healthy babies in Ghana, and conflict resolution
in Nigeria, as well as two Global Health Scholarships for medical students who will be working in Nigeria. These philanthropic efforts by the Hershey Rotary Club align with the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self.”
