Mobile Ag Lab program celebrates 20 years ower Dauphin School District’s Londonderry Elementary School recently hosted a 20th birthday celebration for the Mobile Agriculture Education Science Lab program hosted by the Pennsylvania Friends of Agriculture Foundation. The Mobile Ag Lab had just visited Lower Dauphin’s five elementary schools, providing students with hands-on experiences as they learned about the importance of agriculture. “This is an important tool that we can provide to our youth,” said Morgan Sheffield, grants manager for the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. “The department is a proud supporter of increasing student knowledge about agriculture and its importance in students’ lives.” The state secretary for the FFA, Rebecca Lehman, agreed, saying, “ We’re planting the seeds with these young students to learn about the importance of agriculture in Pennsylvania and hopefully continue that tradition.” The Mobile Agriculture Education

Science Lab is a 40-foot mobile classroom that travels across Pennsylvania bringing an interactive field trip-style experience directly to schools and students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The Mobile Ag Lab is equipped with over 30 STEM-based science experiments and lessons, a certified teacher, and all the supplies needed for a hands-on learning experience. Each science experiment is designed to emphasize a different aspect of agriculture, including Pennsylvania’s commodities, the environment, biotechnology, food, and fiber. While in the lab, students work cooperatively to solve a problem as they form a hypothesis, collect data and draw conclusions while focusing on the Scientific Method. Each lesson at the Mobile Ag Lab focuses on increasing students’ knowledge of the importance of agriculture and its impact on people’s daily lives.
