Fire Company Receives Donation

A Veterans Breakfast for veterans and U.S. military personnel residing in the 106th Legislative District will take place on Thursday, Nov. 8. Hosted by Rep. Tom Mehaffie, the event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lower Swatara Volunteer Fire Department, 1350 Fulling Mill Road, Middletown. The event will feature a hot breakfast, as well as remarks by Mehaffie and other speakers. Each veteran in attendance will receive a commemorative pin. Seating is limited, and registration is required. To register, contact Mehaffie’s district office at 717-534-1323 no later than Monday, Oct. 29. Veterans requiring assistance due to a disability are permitted to bring a guest. Originally open only to veterans residing in care facilities, the event was opened to all veterans after Mehaffie’s second Veterans Breakfast reached full capacity.
On Oct. 2, Hershey Chapter 509, Order of the Eastern Star, served a covered dish dinner at the Hershey Fire Company and then presented a check for $1,500 to Patrick Rudisill, president of the company. Remembrance coins were sold by all jurisdictions in the worldwide Order, and the jurisdiction of Pennsylvania raised the most funds. Hershey Chapter has a special connection with the fire company, as it held its meetings in the second-floor social room of the original firehouse building from 1951 through 1959.
Hershey Figure Skating Club will offer Therapeutic Skating and Wheels on Ice, both beginning on Monday, Oct. 29, at the Giant Center, 550 W. Hersheypark Drive, Hershey. The five-week session of Therapeutic Skating will take place at 4:30 p.m. The on-ice confidence- and balance-building program is for children ages 4 to 16 who have developmental disabilities or physical challenges or who are recovering

from an injury. Each skater will be paired with a volunteer buddy and work at his or her own pace under the guidance of a USFSA-certified coach. Skaters will work on a Therapeutic Skating curriculum, earning badges along the way. Previous participants may pick up where they left off. The dinner will take place on Friday, Nov. 2, in the Chocolate Ballroom at the Hershey Lodge, University Drive, Hershey. Doors will open at 5 p.m., and dinner will begin at 6 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about The Caring Cupboard’s mission.
