The Downtown Hershey Association has announced that the fourth annual Choctoberfest will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20, from noon to 6 p.m. in ChocolateTown Square Park, which is located on the corner of Chocolate Avenue and Cocoa Avenue in downtown Hershey. The family-friendly fall festival will feature live music, chocolate, food from downtown Hershey restaurants, and more. There will be an array of family and children’s activities. Penn State Health will host two community drive-through Prescription Drug Take-Back events from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27. They will take place at the Academic Support Building, 90 Hope Drive, Hershey, and at Penn State Health Medical Group - Palmyra, 941 Park Drive, Palmyra. People may drop off their unwanted, unneeded or expired medications for safe disposal. Needles and syringes will also be accepted. The service is free and anonymous. Bigs In Blue Partnership Launched Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region (BBBSCR) recently launched a new Bigs in Blue partnership with the Derry Township Police Department and Derry Township School District. The kickoff was held at Hershey Intermediate Elementary School. Police officers participating in the Bigs in Blue program will spend quality time as mentors to eight students at Hershey Intermediate Elementary School. Participating officers will provide support to students and become both a friend and a role model to them while offering a new perspective on what police officers stand for, work for, and represent. According to organization representatives, students in Big Brothers Big Sisters programs develop strong relationships with adults, reduce risky behavior, and maintain or develop positive attitudes toward education, including improved academics and pursuit of college education. A Derry Township police officer recently met his Little Brother at the kickoff of the Bigs in Blue See Bigs In Blue pg 4 partnership through Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region.

Library To Receive Grant

The Susquehanna Chorale has announced its 2018-19 concert season, titled “The Susquehanna Chorale: Make It Your Tradition.” The chorale is a nationally acclaimed adult chamber ensemble of 36 auditioned singers. It was founded in 1981 by artistic director and conductor Linda L. Tedford. The Youth Choral Festival will kick off the new season with a concert on Sunday, Nov. 18, at 4 p.m. at the High Center at Messiah College, 1 College Ave., Grantham. The intergenerational event will feature performances by the 160 voices of the chorale’s educational choirs for children, youths, and young women, as well as the Susquehanna Chorale. The Candlelight Christmas concerts will feature guest brass and percussion instrumentalists from Messiah College. The concerts will feature Lara Hoggaard’s “Personent Hodie” (“On This See Chorale pg 3

The Hershey Public Library will receive a Keystone Grant of $529,784, which it will use to construct a new ADA family entrance and a reading garden, as well as to expand the children’s area and create a space for teenagers. Her family established the Emily Whitehead Foundation to help fund more innovative treatments for childhood cancer. On Sept. 26, Glenn Miller, deputy secretary and commissioner for the Office of Commonwealth Libraries in the Pennsylvania Department of Education, announced that the Hershey Public Library is among 27 libraries in Pennsylvania to be awarded a Keystone Grant. The total figure shared between the 27 libraries is $6,851,597, and the Hershey

a special workshop for people grieving the death of someone close, will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, at Derry Presbyterian Church, 248 E. Derry Road, Hershey. The workshop will offer a video, discussion, and devotional materials that may provide strength, healing, and tools to move forward through the deep pain of grief. There is no cost to attend the program, but advance registration is required. For information or to register, readers may contact the church office at 717-533-9667. In addition, a new GriefShare series will be offered at 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Jan. 8 to April 9, 2019. The series will offer support for individuals who are grieving the loss of a loved one.
