5K For Trey Fundraiser Planned The Hershey Lions Club and club member Brent Schultz invite community members to participate in the 5K for Trey, a 5K run/walk event on Saturday, Oct. 12. The family-themed event will take place on the grounds of the Hershey Medical Center at 30 Hope Drive, Hershey, from 8 a.m. to noon. Registration will begin at 8 a.m., with a short program at 8:30 a.m. and the race beginning promptly at 9 a.m. Participants are encouraged to arrive early to pick up race bibs and receive pre-race instructions. This will be a timed event, and medals will be given out to winners of various age classes. The course will be mostly flat with low-grade hills, starting in the parking lot of 30 Hope Drive and continuing along Cherry Drive, then onto Route 322 to Centerview Drive, around the parking garage and following the same route back to 30 Hope Drive. There will also be a silent auction featuring sports memorabilia. The race is named in memory of Brent’s son, Trey, who succumbed to an infectious disease called mycobacterium abscessus in October 2018 at age 24. Trey started having headaches, vomiting, and being unable to swallow in July 2018 and had his first of 12 brain surgeries in September. Brethren Disaster Relief Auction Slated The 43rd annual Brethren Disaster Relief Auction, known as the largest disaster relief auction in the world, will be held at the Lebanon Valley Expo Center, 80 Rocherty Road, Lebanon, on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 27 and 28, beginning at 9 a.m. The auction, in cooperation with the
Atlantic Northeast and Southern districts of the Church of the Brethren, began in 1977 and has provided more than $16 million in disaster relief to victims of natural disasters both in the U.S. and internationally. 2019 MDA Muscle Walk Scheduled The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) will host the 2019 MDA Muscle Walk of Central PA - Hershey on Saturday, Oct. 5. The event will take place at The Giant Center, 550 Hersheypark Drive, Hershey. Walk registration will begin at 9 a.m., and activities will be offered from 9 to 10:45 a.m. At 10:45 a.m., the walk will kick off and the tribute lap will start. Closing ceremonies will be held at 11:45 a.m. DJ Ricky will provide live music, and food, water, and other snacks have been donated for participants. The event will also feature a magician, Huffy the Clown, mascots, balloons, and more. All activities and food will be free of charge. Volunteers are sought for the event, and volunteers and vendors should arrive at 8 a.m. The ninth annual MDA Muscle Walk is an opportunity for families, friends, neighbors, and local businesses in the Hershey area to come

Speaker To Share Area Veterans’ Stories Todd DePastino will be the guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the Central Pennsylvania World War II Roundtable on Thursday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 433 E. Main St., Hummelstown. DePastino is founder and executive director of the Veterans Breakfast Club, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to gathering veterans of all eras and generations together to share their stories of service with the public. More than 30,000 different people have participated in the Veterans Breakfast Club’s programs and activities over the past 10 years. In his presentation, “War Stories From the Breakfast Club,” DePastino will use photographs of the veterans he has met and interviewed, telling the World War II stories he has heard from veterans living in the region. In addition to his roles with the Veterans Breakfast Club, DePastino is the author of the award-winning “Bill Mauldin: A Life Up Front,” a biography of
