We’ve come so far over the past 100 years, and we’re committed to continuing this legacy.” T he 2024 Capital Re g ion Heart Ball, presented by UPMC and UPMC Health Plan, is set for Saturday, Feb. 24, at 6 p.m. at the Hershey Lodge, 325 University Drive, Hershey. The annual event is a night to acknowledge the association’s year-round efforts to drive health equity in the Harrisburg area. In honor of the association’s centennial celebration, the event will also recognize its 100-year history of pioneering scientific discoveries, advocating for healthy communities and helping to reduce heart disease and stroke death rates. Throughout the evening, the American Heart Association will honor volunteers and patrons, feature stories of survivors, and offer dinner, dancing, and an auction. Master Gardeners to offer programs The Penn State Extension Master Gardeners in Dauphin County have posted a Home Gardening Series. The presenter will be Master Gardener Kevin Kelly. “The Four-Season Garden: A Photographic Tour” will take place on Saturday, Jan. 27, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Kelly, who is passionate about photography as well as gardening, will offer a virtual tour of his suburban garden through the seasons. He will share what he has learned while creating his garden. K elly w ill pres ent “ T he Secrets to Using Groundcovers and Filler Plants” on Saturday, Feb. 17, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Kelly will speak about matrix layer plants that tie the garden together, create green mulch and provide habitat for insects that support the food web. These plants are typically groundcovers or slightly larger filler plants. Kelly will talk about his favorite plants and how he has used them in his ecologically friendly garden.
