New Holland Plans Old-Fashioned Christmas By Ann Mead Ash
In the 12 years that the New Holland Business Association has been holding Christmas on Main, the event has grown to encompass a variety of activities and offerings including food, live music, face painting, and a visit from Santa, along with the lighting of the community Christmas tree. This year, organizer Ed Dougherty, who works with event chairs Judy Bills and Kelly Good, said that participating businesses will sport two American flags in front of their location in honor of Pearl Harbor Day, which is Saturday, Dec. 7, the day of Christmas on Main. Parts of Main Street and Roberts Avenue will be closed from 1 to 6 p.m. The fun will kick off with a children’s breakfast at St. Stephen
A holiday market, visit from Santa, festive food items, entertainment, and the lighting of the community Christmas tree will all be part of the annual Christmas on Main event scheduled for Dec. 7 in downtown New Holland. Reformed Church, 249 E. Main St., beginning at 8 a.m. At 10 a.m., the indoor Christmas Market in the Farmers Fair building at the corner of South Roberts Avenue and Franklin Street will open.
In addition to vendors selling a variety of gift items, Mrs. Santa will read to children at 1 and 2:30 p.m. Outside on South Roberts Avenue, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., food vendors will sell ham sandwiches, hot dogs,
soup, chili, grilled items, french fries, and monkey bread. On North Roberts Avenue, a car show will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Garden Spot Fire Rescue (GSFR) will display fire trucks in the area from 4 to 6 p.m. See Christmas On Main pg 2
Holiday Market Will Benefit Local Scouts A Seasonal Celebration In The Park In 2018, Terre Hill held its first Christmas in the Park event. This year, the train, lights, music, and more will return to the park on Dec. 6, 7, and 8.

“ We put tables all the way around the edges (of the room),” said Gina Dissinger to Beth Copenhaver, describing how she arranges the Christmas Market that will be held at Lickity Split Down Under, the lower level of the restaurant she owns at 209 E. Main St., New Holland. In 2018, members of the Terre Hill Days committee organized the first Terre Hill Christmas in the Park event with the goal of creating a holiday gathering spot for ELANCO-area neighbors. The park was decorated, and a walking trail with a live Nativity was a main attraction. According to John Styer, one of the organizers, the inaugural outing was a success. “We had a great first year - we had nearly 1,500 people
walk through the trail,” said Styer.
