Holiday gifts galore Church to hold two sales in one BY ANN MEAD ASH
hen opportunity knocks, members of Our Lady of Lourdes Church are not afraid to answer. Years ago, the church held an annual holiday bazaar, and it seemed appropriate to bring back the tradition in the fall of 2023. At the same time, longtime parish member Bunny Ford decided to liquidate her clothing business, and she contacted the parish council about donating some of the items to the church. A few parishioners responded by taking the helm of that project. The result is a holiday bazaar and clothing sale to be held at the church, 150 Water St., New Holland, on Saturday, Nov. 18; from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will include a number of vendors, discounted clothing for women, and food items for purchase. Both sales will be held inside the church, and attendees are asked to enter at the Parish Center doorway.

According to New Holland Radio Shack owner Steve Loewen, shopping in the ELANCO area means giving back to your neighbors and friends. “Local businesses are the ones that give door prizes to the Scouts and the football team,” said Loewen. Gina Dissinger, owner of the Lickity Split ice cream and sandwich shop, concurred, saying, “Shopping locally during the holiday season not only benefits your community, but it also bolsters the local economy by reinvesting funds into the hands of your friends and neighbors,

“I want (audience members) to feel the delight that we all remember and are trying to bring to it,” said Jaime Hilton, director of Cavod’s upcoming production of “The Sound of Music.” “I want them to walk away feeling like they just had a big cup of warm cocoa.” “The Sound of Music,” based on “The Story of the Trapp Family Singers” by Maria von Trapp, will be presented at Cavod Theatre, 641 W. Main St., New Holland, with a dinner theater at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1. The show will also
