WMCC Table Dedicated To Howard H. Ranck By Ann Mead Ash

Ginny Dissinger, Becky Zimmerman, and friend Demi Porter made a decision to honor the connection of Dissinger’s and Zimmerman’s father, Howard H. Ranck, to the Welsh Mountain Community Center (WMCC). Together, they bid on a picnic table at the Ranck United Methodist Church silent auction. The table had been constructed by young church members. The three asked Dan Pratt, who lives near WMCC, to make a plaque for the table, which reads, “In Memory of Howard Ranck,” and bears the likeness of a surveying tool. The table is now located in the park adjacent to the community center. Howard was born in the Green Bank area, which is close to both the church and the community center. He grew up on a farm located in the valley just below the Welsh Mountains. According to Dissinger, Howard was always more interested in locating the See WMCC Table pg 8

A year ago, members of Stonecroft Ministries Lancaster decided to hold an event called Story Marks in Lancaster. The gathering featured photos and testimonies of a number of local women about how their tattoos are an expression of their Christian journeys. The event was so well received, the group, which includes Rebekah Christens-Persaud, Tracey Strohecker, Annie Friedrichs, Linda Johnston, Marlene Hall, Joleen Yunginger, Blanche Myer, and Lily Cheng, has decided to hold a second presentation. On Thursday, Oct. 24, area women are invited to the Barn at Overlook Commons, 605 Granite Run Drive, Lancaster, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to view the photos; hear speakers, including Friedrichs; and enjoy light fare. This year’s gallery will feature more than a dozen photos of women and the tattoos that have been an expression of their Christian journeys. “Every woman has a story,” said Strohecker. “The event is about sharing stories,” added Christens-Persaud. Both women emphasized that the group welcomes each woman “where she is, as she is.” “It’s about women sharing their stories to relate See Story Marks pg 4
