f indeed two heads are better than one, just think what 40 cooperating minds can accomplish. What activates these inquisitive minds is a profound wisdom that when one of us benefits, we all benefit. ELANCO Community Collaboration Gathering is the perfect name
because it tells exactly what the collective group is all about. “The goal is to give local businesses, civic organizations and churches a forum to update what they are doing and to collaborate,” said Allison Cuthie, the executive director of CrossNet Ministries, which hosts the ELANCO Community Collaboration Gatherings. “It’s just a good way to reintroduce
things to the community. I think there’s a lot of value in us coming together. It’s an opportunity to share.” The next edition of the locale’s triannual bull session, brainstorming and networking event is right around the corner. The fall installment of the ELANCO Community Collaboration Gathering will be conducted at 7:30 a.m. on
Annika’s Angels Get Kicks Out of Kids Playing Soccer BY JEFF FALK
whereandwhen.com
Annika Rollman thoroughly enjoyed playing soccer. Friendly, quick with a smile, quick with a pass and always trying to do the right things, Annika was the consummate teammate. Through Annika’s Angels, she is still gaining teammates - even though she is no longer with us. “Annika loved soccer,” said Mimy Rollman, Annika’s mom.
“It was her first year, when she was 10. She was just all in right away. It was fun to watch her play.” It’s been 18 months since Annika and her 15-year-old brother, Carson, were killed in a tragic car accident. In November of 2025, Annika’s Angels, for which Mimy and husband, Brad, serve as board members, was formed to honor Annika and Carson’s memories and to See Angels pg 2

Twice now, Travis Jankowski has made the best out of a major league baseball opportunity. In each instance, putting others ahead of himself has played a huge role in his success. “Everyone had always said to me, ‘You’d make a good coach one day,’” said Jankowski. “Up until 2021, I was like, ‘I don’t know what you are talking about. I don’t see it.’ I was 29 going on 30, and it was a pivotal point in my career.” “I started thinking, ‘I never had a veteran take me under his wing,’” continued Jankowski. “‘I’m actually going to care about someone else more than myself.’ After a while, I was like ‘Huh, this is kind of cool; it’s kind of fulfilling. It’s time I made this game more about others than myself.’” Jankowski is in his first season as the Texas Rangers’ first-base coach. In addition to his in-game duties of keeping players on their toes, Jankowski teaches base-running, footwork and outfield defense. Making his transition to coaching a smooth one is the fact that Jankowski is less than a year removed from an 11-year playing career. He’s also only 35, and he spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons with Texas, where he played with some of the current Rangers players. T he R angers were 74-76 through the first 150 games of their 2026 season. “Coaching is relationships,” said Jankowski, a 2009 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School. See Jankowski pg 8

financially assist local kids interested in playing soccer. Beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, the Garden Spot Youth Soccer Club (GSYSC) will host a soccer tournament on multiple fields at Petra Church, 565 Airport Road, New Holland, to benefit Annika’s Angels. The event will feature 26 teams, from ages under-6 to under-15, from all across Lancaster County. “It’s expensive for kids to be involved with sports,” said Mimy. “The mission of Annika’s Angels is to provide scholarships that pay registration fees to play soccer or get into soccer. This fall, we were able to pay for three kids to play. We hope to move into (soccer) equipment as funds grow.” The presence of a handful of food trucks will add to the festivities during the Annika’s Angels benefit tournament. Merchandise will be sold, donations will be accepted and organizers are hoping to realize $2,000 for Annika’s Angels’ mission. “My favorite part is everyone coming together for my daughter and her love for the game,”said Mimy, a resident of East Earl. “People are saying her name. She loved people. “For me, it’s like now there’s a purpose in my kids’ death,” continued Mimy. “God tells us that good will come out of it. When they approached me about (the tournament), I said,

“It’s definitely been a long journey,” Mimy continued. “We’ve had so much support from the community; it’s been tremendous. Our kids were so involved in sports. Now the shock has worn off, but I still watch for them to come home. It’s hard seeing their friends growing up. It means a lot that people haven’t forgotten them, but I miss them a lot.” Grief is a process, and the Rollmans continue to make day-to-day progress in that process. Annika’s Angels and GSYSC’s upcoming tournament represent healing milestones in a journey that has no end.

“I’ve been pretty open about my journey,” said Mimy. “If you live a life of openness, you can’t get bitter. My message is just treasure your kids; never take anything for granted. We’re not promised anything. Telling their story is healing for us. “I tell everyone, people have a choice,” concluded Mimy. “I don’t really have a choice. I won’t go down a dark path. Of course, we’ll see them again. (The tournament) takes some of the hurt away. It makes it feel like it wasn’t in vain.”

‘Yes. It’ll be something good, and it’ll make it a little easier to bear.” On Good Friday, April 18, 2025, all six members of the Rollman family were in a vehicle headed for a vacation at Myrtle Beach, S.C. Around the Washington, D.C., area, the Rollman’s vehicle was struck from behind by another vehicle. The Rollman vehicle veered off the road and into a wooded area. “Carson was dead at the scene,” said Mimy. “Annika passed away later that evening. The rest of us were fine except for some bumps and bruises. It was kind of all or nothing.

Wednesday, Oct. 21, inside CrossNet Ministries’ spacious youth center, 110 W. Franklin St., New Holland. The gathering is free to attend and open to the public. D onuts and coffee will be served. “It’s sort of like a roundtable discussion, but in the shape of a horseshoe and everyone gets a seat at the table,” said Cuthie. “It’s less decision-making and more sharing. We hold it in the morning before work so it’s convenient for people. You can leave marketing materials, and then we’ll send out notes from the meeting.” Typically, the ELANCO Community Collaboration Gatherings last about an hour. “I (serve as the master of ceremonies for) it to keep things moving along,” said Cuthie. “It’s a ver y open and welcoming oppor tunity to share. It’s a community forum. Because it’s people from all different organizations, you get a really clear picture of the state of the union in ELANCO. There might be an announcement for something happening at a church. There might be a report of how many calls the ambulance association went on. That’s why it’s important to involve as many people as we can.” At any given gathering, 40 representatives from the local police department, the local government, the ELANCO School See Gathering pg 6

I respect, who said, ‘You are a true professional,’” said Jankowski. “‘You play the game the right way, and you’re an asset in the clubhouse.’ That meant a lot to me, especially being a bench player like I was. I showed up every day and left my ego at the door. I cared more about winning than my stat line. That’s what a professional does.” The world of major league baseball coaching is filled
with uncertainty, change and opportunity. Every year, a host of managers and coaches are fired or let go. “Some people have come up to me and said, ‘You’d be a good manager someday,’” said Jankowski. “I have zero interest in that right now.
