87th Annual Farmers Fair Planned By Ann Mead Ash

The longevity of the Farmers Day Association Fair, also known as the New Holland Fair, is based, at least in part, on tradition. This year, the agricultural tradition in one local family will be part of the activities as Madison Banbury of Danville, Ohio, serves as the judge for the sheep and goat competitions. Banbury is the granddaughter of Bob Herr, a retired agriculture educator, founder of Grassland FFA, and R.D. Herr Scholarship Goat sponsor. This year’s fair will be held from Wednesday, Oct. 3, through Saturday, Oct. 6, on Main Street, Roberts Avenue, Franklin Street, and Fulton Street. A new tradition for the event, which started last year with a free concert by local performer Sam Schmidthuber, will continue this year with a free concert by Kracker Beez, a classic rock band. See Farmers Fair pg 2

The New Holland Farmers Day Association Fair, also known as the New Holland Fair, will be held from Wednesday, Oct. 3, through Saturday, Oct. 6, throughout downtown New Holland. This year’s fair will feature a parade, a midway, exhibits, food, and competitions for students who have raised sheep, goats, and swine.

National Day Of Prayer For Mental Health Service Slated By Ann Mead Ash

This is only Gwen Didden’s second year helping to organize the Lancaster County National Day of Prayer for Mental Illness Recovery and Understanding, but as director of Faith Friendship Ministries in Mountville, Didden fully understands the significance of the event to those dealing with mental health issues. “The (prayer service) is important because it brings hope, said Didden. “This (event) couples hope and prayer (to offer) spiritual guidance (that) is so important for people who are managing mental illness or living with people who are dealing with mental illness. See Prayer Service pg 3
