New Holland Fair To Return BY ANN MEAD ASH
ristie Overly, who handles premiums for the New Holland Fair exhibits, is happy to be looking ahead to the 89th annual Farmers Fair after the 2020 event had to be canceled. “We are really glad to be back, and we are looking forward to large, safe crowds,” said Overly, who noted that the best part of her work with the fair is seeing children and others earn prizes. “When the kids work on something - a craft, Legos model, or raising an animal - and they bring it to the fair … (and) when they get a prize, it is so rewarding for us to see,” she shared. The 2021 New Holland Farmers Day Association Fair will be held from Wednesday, Sept. 29, through Saturday, Oct. 2, on Main Street, Roberts Avenue, Franklin Street, and Fulton Street. The fair will kick off on Sept. 29 with the parade, which will begin at 7 p.m. The Spectacle of Bands competition, which is part of the parade, will be held,

Woodcrest Creates Raven’s Roost BY ANN MEAD ASH
The new Raven’s Roost wooden playground, which opened Sept. 18 in the upper playground at Woodcrest Retreat, rises high into the trees. In fact, a few of the trees are encompassed by the platforms of the structure. “We had talked about a treehouse,” said Jason Martin, operations director for the camp and conference center. “It’s the feel of a treehouse without being a treehouse. It’s not using any trees to support it, but trees are in the midst of it.”

INSIDE THIS ISSUE
New Playground Opens At Camp Raven’s Roost was made possible when a proposed Woodcrest project was canceled and a donor graciously allowed the funds to be transferred to create a new playground instead. In the fall of 2020, Martin and other staff members brainstormed ways to expand the playground, which is located adjacent to the pool. “We put our heads together as a staff and came up with detailed points for what we were looking for,” explained Martin, who then utilized his background in construction and design in drawing up the plans for Raven’s Roost.
