CrossNet Plans Coat Giveaway By Ann Mead Ash

In 2017, CrossNet Ministries of New Holland asked area residents to donate new or gently used coats for its winter coat drive, and the community responded. “Last year, we gave away approximately 140 coats to children from infants through seniors in high school,” said CrossNet office manager Lisa Kerstetter. This year, looking to repeat the success of that endeavor, CrossNet will be accepting coats, hats, scarves, and gloves at its offices at 123 W. Franklin St., New Holland, through Thursday, Oct. 4. Donors who bring a brand-new coat to contribute to the drive will be entered to win a $50 gift card. The gift card drawing will be held following the end of the drive. NLAM Banquet Will Feature “Journeys Of Hope” Theme

“We try to live out the parable of the Good Samaritan. We recognize people … who are hurting and suffering in our communities. We meet them where they’re at, and we respond with generosity and compassion,” said Nate Hoffer, chief executive officer of Good Samaritan Services, when he spoke recently at a meeting of the New Holland Area Kiwanis Club. Good Samaritan, with locations in Ephrata, Lancaster, Coatesville, and Phoenixville, was founded as the Good Samaritan Shelter in 2002 when several Phoenixville-area churches joined forces to help area residents who were struggling, especially with housing.
