n my opinion, the fair is the number one event that is hosted in New Holland,” said Paulene Redding, the president of the New Holland Farmers Fair’s board of directors, “and our continued community involvement is what makes our event so special. Everybody wants to be a part of the fair in one way or another. “ To the community, the New Holland Fair means tradition, a time to gather in the streets with family, friends and community, to reminisce about the old and look for and discuss what is new,” continued Redding. “It’s an event that celebrates New

Holland and its surrounding communities. This will be our 94th year, and it remains an event that people look forward to all year long.” Preparations for the 2026 edition of the New Holland Farmers Fair are well underway. They’re all leading up to Wednesday, Sept. 30, through Saturday, Oct. 3, when the midway will open at 11 a.m. each day, and the rides will start at 4 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and at noon on Friday and Saturday. In town, the fair will be staged along Main Street between Railroad Avenue and Custer Avenue, on Roberts Avenue between Franklin and Broad streets and on Franklin Street between Railroad and See Fair pg 4

It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neuro Neighborhood BY JEFF FALK

There’s a great new nonprofit in Lancaster County that’s been founded by Neffsville resident Greta Myers. It’s called “Neuro Neighborhood.” “ We used ‘neighborhood ’ to give people a welcoming invitation to something bigger than themselves,” said Myers, who also serves as executive director of the organization. “Neighborhoods contain people who come together to support one another. We all know how important it is to have a support system, and we felt that use of the title ‘neighborhood’ would exemplify our support. “Our goal is to continue to get the word out so we can reach as many people as possible,” continued Myers. “The more people who know about the Neuro Neighborhood, the more people we can support.” Founded in March of 2025, Neuro Neighborhood is an al l - vol u nte er or ganiz at ion designed to help people dealing with neurological conditions like Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis. Those neurological conditions can occur through injury or a deterioration of the central nervous system, which includes our brains and spinal cords. For now, Myers is operating Neuro Neighborhood out of her residence. “Spinal cord injuries or brain injuries can be caused by traumatic events to either area of our central nervous system, or lack of blood flow to that area,” said Myers. “Symptoms widely vary between neurological conditions including movement, See Neuro pg 2

Among the community events that Neuro Neighborhood sponsors and conducts are regular Red Rose Parkinson’s Support Group meetings; Adaptive Recreation Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Road, Lancaster; and periodic Neuro Caregiver Support Group meetings at Wellness Merge Physical Therapy, 903 Nissley Road, Lancaster. All of those activities are free to attend, and some require preregistration at www .neuroneighborhood.org. “We want people to know neurological conditions can happen to anyone, and if you or a loved one is diagnosed, there are people who want to help you navigate the challenges that you may be facing and support you in living a fulfilling life,” said Myers, a graduate of Warwick High School, who has a background in physical therapy. “We do not want people to isolate themselves or fear doing things based on a diagnosis. We encourage you to reach out to our specialized suppor t, because, with (the) right support, you can thrive. In some of our most challenging times in life, we all need a neighborhood to count on.” Overseen by a five-person board of directors, Neuro Neighborhood serves about 200 individuals, mainly adults from L ancaster Count y and surrounding areas. Currently situated in the initial phase of its planned growth process, Neuro Neighborhood’s future goals include adding physical therapy services, incorporating a multidisciplinar y team,

locating a physical office space, adding wellness programming and partnering with similar organizations in the community. “As I continued to study to become a board-certified Neurological Clinical Specialist, I also began searching for more community resources for my patients,” said Myers. “Unfortunately, I had trouble finding the types of resources and support that my patients were

looking for, so I started writing those ideas down as a list. Then I did research and connected with other organizations around the country that were trying to incorporate a better continuum of care and support for adults with neurological conditions. My list continued to grow, and I found others who wanted to help me make that list a reality. Thus, we created Neuro Neighborhood.”

For one day, Columbia’s Janson Field will transform into a living museum, bringing the sights, sounds and r ules of baseball’s earliest days back to life. On Saturday, Aug. 15, two vintage clubs will compete in a free doubleheader of 1864-style “base ball” (the original two-word spelling), a version of the game played by more than 400 teams across the country. The games will begin at 11 a.m. at the park, 650 Cherry St. The event is possible thanks to the support of the Columbia Lions Club as part of the borough’s yearlong tricentennial celebration, and admission is free. The matchup will pit the Keystone Club of Harrisburg against the Mechanicsburg Zouaves. B oth teams recently competed with a total of 26 clubs in the Gettysburg National 19th Century Base Ball Festival, held July 18 and 19. Even the names of the teams are based in history, said Rich Heinick, who was

a founding member of the Keystones when the team formed more than a decade ago. “Both clubs have borrowed their names from actual teams that played in those towns during the 1860s and 1870s,” he explained. “The Zouaves were re-formed recently, and this will be their inaugural game. There will be extra uniforms available if anyone would like to try their hand at 1864 base ball.” More than one sports historian has described this vintage sport as “a Civil War re-enactment with real bullets.” The game will look familiar to today’s fans, except for two notable differences: Players compete without gloves, since they were not widely used until the early 1880s, and a ball caught after one hop - known as “on the bound” - counts as an out. “The bound rule changes the way everyone hits, runs and positions themselves on defense,” Heinick said. “It seems a little strange at

Highlights of the New Holland Farmers Fair will include 80 vendors, kids’ day, baby and pet parades, a tug of war, line dancing, pedal power, the Funnel Cake 5K, a new antique tractor show and a new age-7-to-10 category for the fair princess. “After all of these years, the New Holland fair continues to be a celebration of New Holland and its surrounding communities,” said Redding , a resident of Caernar von Township. “I hope that all who are already involved feel a sense of pride in knowing the y are why this is possible. For those who are not involved, I’d like them to find a way to become involved, whether i t ’s t h ro u g h d o n a t i n g their time or becoming a sponsor in some way.” Tens of thousands of local residents, families and community members are expected to visit New Holland over the four days of the fair. Proceeds from the fair, which is supported by dozens of civically minded businesses, will be reinvested in future fairs and go toward maintenance of the fair building. The New Holland Farmers Fair requires the time, efforts and talents of more than 250 volunteers to be successful. Inspired by the success of farmer’s day exhibits in Lititz , Ephrata and Manheim, a group of five men formed a farmer’s day association in New Holland in 1927. “If you talk to a local over the age of 40, they will call the New Holland Fair the ‘ far m show,’” said Redding. “I believe the New Holland Farmers Fair has evolved into more of an entertainment event rather than a farming event. It seems that somewhere along the lines the carnival-like feel took over and the farming aspects took a back seat. We should be celebrating farming more, especially with so much far ming and the farming industry around us. We ’ve been trying to bring the farm back to the farm show.”

Two of those competitors are the Griggs brothers, Abram and Caleb, who are sixthand fourth-grade students in the EL ANCO school district, respectively. During the 2026 season, Abram and Caleb both captured multiple national championships in S3DA archery. While the amazing accomplishments were a testament to the brothers’ hard work, dedication and honed skills, Caleb and Abram are also byproducts of RAC’s thriving program and environment. “ T hey are just g reat kids,” said Lauffer. “They are amazing teammates, supportive of one another as well as their other teammates. Their enthusiasm towards archery is contagious. They love archery, but they are also very well rounded. They both play goalie on their respective soccer teams, are Scouts (Scouting America) and are involved in a lot of school activities.” After being a national runner-up six times in previous years, Caleb claimed four national championships this year, including ones at Owensboro, Ky., in February; at Red Lake, Ill., in June; and at Evansville, Ind., in July. Abram won two national championships in 2026, including one at Evansville, Ind. Overall, RAC competitors

have now won 14 national championships and brought home a total of 50 national medals. “All of our coaches are extremely proud of the Griggs boys,” said Lauffer, a resident of Caernarvon Township. “They go by the nickname ‘Barebow Brothers.’ We have watched their passion and drive continue to develop. They are both extremely hard workers, and it is easy to be a fan of a young person who brings their passion for archery and work ethic to every practice and competition. They have come a long way in their three years with the team, and we could not be happier for their success or more proud of their achievements.” Since 2017, RAC’s S3DA program has nurtured 107 state champions across three disciplines. T his season, the program earned its 10th straight team state championship. “S3DA is doing great things locally, statewide and nationally, and there are opportunities for a wide range of ages and experience levels,” said Lauffer. “I wish potential archers and their parents would check us out. I also hope that people would understand the tremendous scholarship opportunities in archery ... The New Holland Band will present its four th annual Isaac Witwer Award to Garden Spot Fire Rescue during a brief ceremony before the band’s rehearsal on Tuesday, Aug. 25. CAP Squadron Relocates

The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Jesse Jones Composite Squadron has announced that it will relocate to Alliance Aviation within the terminal of the Lancaster Airport in Lititz beginning in August. The squadron’s meetings will be held on Mondays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., which represents a change from the previous schedule. The new location will provide a larger meeting space as well as a professional environment for cadet and senior member development. It will support all three of CAP’s chartered missions: cadet programs, emergency services, and aerospace education. Cadet programs include leadership development, physical fitness, and character development for youths ages 12 to 18. Emergency services include training for search and rescue, disaster relief, communications, and also mission support training for qualified members. Aerospace education includes STEM instruction, learning about aviation, and an aerospace curriculum for cadets and senior members. CAP also provides additional opportunities, such as flight training, encampments, and national special activities. The relocation was made possible through the continued support and partnership of airport manager Ed Foster. The squadron remains committed to serving Lancaster County through volunteering, youth development, and mission readiness.
