EGG HUNT

Peace United Church of Christ, 37 E. Swartzville Road, Denver, will hold an Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 13, at 10 a.m. The event will take place rain or shine. There will be a light lunch, and all children from newborns through high-schoolers are invited to participate. DONATIONS SOUGHT

The first ELANCO Library Community Fest will be held on Saturday, May 11, at Garden Spot High School, 669 E. Main St., New Holland. Donated items will be sold in the rummage sale, and donations of items are being accepted for the event. Volunteers are also needed to assist at the event. The New Holland Area Historical Society will host a presentation on the restoration of a Vietnam-era Huey helicopter at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 18. The program will be delivered by the Liberty War Bird Association in the chapel at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland. The public is invited to attend.

Annual Good Friday Worship Service Set By Ann Mead Ash

For more than a decade, New Hollandarea residents have been invited to a special Good Friday service overseen by members of the ELANCO Ministerium. This year’s service will be held on Friday, April 19, at the Garden Spot Village chapel, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, at 1:30 p.m. The theme of the 2019 service will be “Places of the Passion.” Each of six area pastors will give a short meditation on a specific place on the journey from the upper room to the tomb. The service will open with a prelude by Honey Lou McAdams on the organ. The Village Ringers bell choir, under the direction of Fran Rapp, will provide the introit. Kevin Kirkpatrick, pastor of Terre Hill Bible Fellowship Church and current ministerium chair, will welcome the gathering and read the call to worship and prayer.

MUSICAL PRESENTATION

will present a concert on Sunday, April 14, at New Holland Mennonite Church, 18 Western Ave., New Holland, at 7 p.m. The concert will include classic hymn arrangements, Southern gospel songs, spirituals, and selections in modern styles. Admission is free, but a freewill offering will be received to benefit the chorus’s chosen mission project.

The offering will benefit CrossNet’s Pathways to Housing program, which provides safe and affordable housing to ELANCO-area individuals, families, seniors, and veterans who are experiencing or are about to experience homelessness. Meredith Dahl, executive director of CrossNet, said that the organization believes that every person in the community should have a safe and affordable place to live. “Pathways to Housing is a 12- to 18month program that focuses on empowering participants to build their resources, including financial literacy, physical health care, education, and emotional resources,” explained Dahl. “Our desire is to collaborate and partner with local organizations, churches, businesses, and municipalities to see participants meet their goals and find permanent housing after completing the program.” See Worship Service pg 2

Historic Poole Forge, 1940 Main St., Narvon, will hold a spring plant swap on Friday, April 12, in the pavilion. Setup will begin at 6 p.m., with the swap at 6:30 p.m. Participants may bring annuals, perennials, shrubs, rooted cuttings, vegetable plants, seeds, bulbs, vines, trees and houseplants. 22nd “Messiah” Sing-Along Slated Once Upon A Summertime …

The 22nd annual “Messiah” Sing-Along will take place on Friday, April 26, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Lancaster at 7 p.m. Past events have featured about 150 singers and attracted up to 600 audience members. By Ann Mead Ash

For more than two decades, the “Messiah” Sing-Along has been held in Lancaster County. It has always been and remains a drop-in event. “The people

can come as they are,” said Clair Leaman, who had conducted a “Messiah” SingAlong in Chester County for more than a decade before organizing the Lancaster version. “Just stop in. There are no rehearsals.” See Sing-Along pg 11
