Representatives of Romanian Christian Outreach Foundation distribute wood and food to those in need in Romania. The foundation has built churches, founded an orphanage, and instituted an afterschool program in Romania. A fundraising dinner featuring Christian comedian Gordon Douglas will be held at Yoder’s Banquet Facility, New Holland, on April 29 at 6:15 p.m.

with the founding of an orphanage, after-school program, and outreach to Gypsies, also known as Roma, living in southern Romania. In 2001, Romanian Christian Outreach Foundation (RCOF) was founded. To help meet the organization’s annual budget, a yearly dinner is held. This year’s event, which will feature a menu including fried chicken, will be held at Yoder’s Banquet Facility, 14 S. Tower Road, New Holland, on Monday, April 29, at 6:15 p.m. Doors will open at 5:45 p.m. The evening will feature the comedy of Gordon Douglas. Douglas, who has previously performed locally, is known for entertainment that is imbued with humility, honesty, and a passion for God. Douglas combines life lessons and even painful events into a program that mixes reality with his love of laughter. Douglas and his wife, Dawn, have five children. Yoder recalled that he first started helping Damien to build a church in the Hunedoara region, which is in the central western area of Romania, in 1991. “It took about three years to build,” said Yoder, who added that the church quickly attracted people from See Romanian Outreach pg 8

Vendor Show Will Benefit Cavod

The Kiwanis Club of New Holland will present a Travel Adventures Cinema Series program on Saturday, April 6, at the Garden Spot High School, 669 E. Main St., New Holland. The doors will open at 6 p.m., and the show will begin at 7 p.m. The program will be “The Royal Inca Road,” produced by Karin Muller and hosted by Sandy Mortimer. The 3,200-mile Inca Road was built more than 500 years ago to link the outposts of the Inca Empire. To purchase tickets, call 717-354-7783. Children will be admitted for free.

John Yoder’s first visit to Romania occurred in 1990. “I was with an evangelist, Steve Wingfield,” recalled Yoder, who traveled along with pastor Alvin Horning of Grace and Truth Church in Morgantown. Yoder had met Wingfield when he was holding meetings in Lancaster County. When Wingfield traveled to Romania to hold meetings on soccer fields, Yoder and Horning went along to help with setup and tear-down. It was there that the men met Mircea Damien, who was ministering to the people of Romania in the first years after the fall of communism in 1989. A friendship between the three men developed, and Yoder and Horning began helping Damien, first by building churches and later

Women Create Comforters For People In Need

Sisters Carmen Weber (left) of New Holland and Krista Petersheim of Geigertown display a comforter they made that was knotted together by members of Neighbors Caring and Sharing, a Christian women’s fellowship group that meets at Conestoga Mennonite Church in Morgantown. The completed comforters will be donated to the Mennonite Central Committee for distribution to those in need.

While people in need around the world receive warmth and a sense of security in the form of comforters made by the Neighbors Caring and Sharing women’s fellowship group, the group hopes that the colorful fabric quilts will also let them know that they are not forgotten. Members of Neighbors Caring and Sharing, which meets weekly at Conestoga Mennonite Church in Morgantown, gathered on March 12 to knot comforters for the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), a Christian relief organization. The women completed the project under the guidance of sisters Krista Petersheim and Carmen Weber, who provided nearly completed comforters consisting of a piece of material See Women s Group pg 6

When Gina Dissinger held a vendor fair in the basement of Lickity Split during Christmas on Main in New Holland, the response from the public was positive. “It was successful, and the community asked for more,” recalled Dissinger. Dissinger enjoyed giving the public an opportunity to see the historic jail in the basement of what was once Kauffman’s Hardware Store, but she also wanted to give back to the community. Several years ago, her son, Justin, had taken part in a musical produced by Ready to raise funds for Cavod Acade- Cavod Academy of the Arts. “I loved seeing the positive changes in his life my of the Arts are (from left) Maria Harvey, Megan Ranck, Gina Dissinger, (from the experience),” said Dissinger, who later began taking dance lessons and Stacy Wessel. The ladies will be from Cavod. “I have been part of Cavod among several vendors who will take part in the Spring Vendor Show to be for more than eight years, and I love how they invest in people of all ages, held at Lickity Split Down Under on and they inspire them to explore their
